I quit of February 16th and I dipped Copenhagen for 14 years. I did it cold turkey. In my mind the only way you can totally quit is if you are truly tired of dipping and that's where I was. I was tired of buying it and having one in all day. It was hard and I gained some weight but it's worth it. I haven't had one since. Just take one day at a time. Before you know it, it will be 2 weeks and it will be out of your system. The first 10 days will be your hardest.

Quit Jan.1,'07 on a bet - that I won & haven't seen a penny from the other 2 that lasted a couple of weeks and the other a month and a half. Started chewing gum (Stride doesn't fall apart after chewing it for a while like Orbit does, if anyone was wondering). I tried the mint snuff and couldn't hack it, it was awful. Heard about some nicotine replacement snuff from my periodontist (tell you anything - implant), but never could find it around here.
I tell my wife all the time that I could still put a whole can of Cope in my lip at once right now and be happy as a lark, even if I threw up from all the nicotine!! I still want it BAD, but won't do it. David sunflower seeds (2 large bags a day) got me FAT the last time I quit, so I didn't even try it this time. Went in the grocery store beck home in the Delta and the chinese lady that has known me all my life went "Ooooo, Cavin, fat fat fat!", I was 285-290lbs at that time so when I start getting around 270lbs again I think of "fat fat fat" and have to make an effort to cut back..... (I'm 6'3", so it doesn't look as bad as it actually is on me)

It is tough to quit, but in the long run, well worth it - health wise anyway!

Good Luck!

last dip was June 3, 2004. I still love Copenhagen. I still want copenhagen, but I told myself I did not want to embarrass my daughter with rotten teeth or half a face.

I think I am gonna start back when I turn 50. :D

I tried everything under the sun before when I would try. Sunflower deeds, cuttting back a dip a day till I was weened, safe alternatives, etc. Nothing worked. You just got to make up your mind and decide that you will not be a prisoner to something. Whether it is copenhagen, liquor, porn, ka-kain, or big macs. I am having more trouble with food than anything right now. Good luck and pray about it every morning.

prayers sent. You should say a prayer or pick up your bible and read everytime you feel like you need a dip. That has helped me.

I quit on April the 22 of 07. It has been 1 year 5 months and 17 days since my last dip.

I was sitting at the house on my sons birthday and literally had a dip in all day....that night I told myself that was it.............I dropped it cold turkey.

You have to take it one day at a time and pretty soon you will not even think about it.

Here is the key......you really really have to want to quit.....dont do it just to see if you can. If you want to quit then you can......but you have to want it.

And you cant get one at the farm, or just when you go hunting......there is no a little......here a little there.

I JUST QUIT SMOKING AFTER ABOUT 20+ YEARS. CHANTIX FOR SMOKERS AND THERE ARE SOME PLACES THAT OFFER FREE MEDICINE. CHANTIX WAS KILLING POCKET CAUSE IT COST 140 A MONTH BUT I READ UP 1MG DOSES EQUAL 1 PK OF SMOKES AND I SAW I WAS GONNA HAVE TO TRIPPLE DOSES TO QUIT SO I COULDNT AFFORD IT. TALKED TO A FRIEND AND SHE SAID THERE WAS A CLASS AT NORTH SUNFLOWER HOSPITAL AND I ENROLLED AND GOT MEDICINE FOR FREE AND HAVE BEEN SMOKE FREE FOR A WEEK.

HUGE TIP WAS GET AWAY FROM IT WHILE ON MEDICINE AND IT IS WAY EASIER. NERVES ARE SHOT BUT I AM ALMOST 9 DAYS INTO NO NICOTINE. I WENT ON VACATION AND GOT ME AWAY FROM WORK WHERE EVERYONE SMOKED NONSTOP FOR A WEEK AND I CAME BACK SMOKE FREE. I STILL WANT A SMOKE BUT I ACTUALLY TRIED TO SMOKE ONE THE OTHER DAY AND IT MUST BE MEDICINE BECAUSE IT MADE ME SICK AT MY STOMACH AND BAD HEAD ACHE -- THUS MAKING ME WANT TO STOP EVEN MORE. THERE ARE WAYS TO QUIT -- I COULDNT DO IT COLD TURKEY BUT SOME SAY THEY CAN . IT IS WORSE THAN COCAINE OR ANY DRUG I EVER SAW. I AM SMOKE FREE AND HOPEFULLY GONNA STAY THAT WAY. I HAVE A FEW MORE CLASSES TO GO TO AT HOSPITAL- THEY REQUIRE 5 SESSIONS OF YOU COMING INTO GROUP AND THEY JUST TEST YOU AND SEE HOW U ARE DOING NOT LIKE AA OR ANY THING . I CAN ASK FOR OTHERS PLACES OR NUMBER TO CALL IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE TO FIND FREE HELP IN THE AREA THEY LIVE... U GOT TO REALLY WANT TO STOP TO QUIT . I ALWAYS TRIED TO STOP BUT NEVER WANTED TO SO I NEVER DID BUT I MADE UP MY MIND I WOULD LIKE TO SEE MY SON PLAY SOME BALL OR GRADUATE SO I DECIDED TO GET SOME HELP. IT IS POSSIBLE TO QUIT !

I have quit several times and started back everytime. Sometimes 6 months later sometimes 2 weeks later. Like yall said you have to want to. And I have been wanting to for quite a while and I finally started quitting again. I have not had a dip since 10/8/08 I know that is not even a week but it sure feels like it sometimes. I actually have the will power this time and think this might be it. I made it through my first high school football game friday night with out a dip. But it is no so much the nicotine that gets me it is certain things that I always had a dip in that gets me. Like planting some patches this weekend man I wanted one. Or at the football game, or sitting in my recliner. But I have decided to quit for my son. I want to be able to be around for a while. Cold Turkey. Tha alternatives taste like crap.
