Ducks down already....

Postby Millenium Mallard » Sun Oct 21, 2001 3:44 pm

Went to work on the blind Saturday afternoon and saw at least 1000 ducks on public land. Plenty of duck weed and more ducks than you could shake a stick at. Widgeon, gadwall, teal, mallards, and woodies covered about 60 acres of duckweed...I haven't seen this for years, problem is, they will probably be gone by the next cold front.
They are here boys...won't be long.

MM,

I'm not going to ask you "where" but where were you? Were you down here on the coast. I work on Back Bay, and haven't seen the first duck.

GC,

You know where I work. That is what I mean by back bay and the fact that we do spend a considerable amount of time on the water. You also know where I live. I haven't seen any over there either.

Relax BW, I was just funning you. That ain't yer blind next to the "New Palace"? I have seen a good many grayducks in the marsh, but no other big ducks yet. As far a I know, all the teal went through long before the season started.

I know you were kidding! I was trying to get some SECRET info. You know, being slick about it. I saw one duck out in front of the office two weeks ago. It has been the only one.

I wonder if anybody here at the office up in management would mind me taking a work boat to build a blind out in front on the island? Probably go under the "misappropriation of state resources" clause. Oh well!!!

I agree with you on the teal. They were making for hell or high water to get to ole' Mexico.

We got a new lease North of Greenville. And no, I won't tell you anything other than that. But, I do know what I saw, and that was well over a thousand ducks, all mixed mallards, gads, widgeon, bluewings, and woodies together on the duckweed. I would say probably over 2000, but I don't want to exaggerate....I know for sure that it was over 1000 ducks and they were hell bent on staying in the area for now. Going up this weekend again to finish up some work on the blind and will give another report to let ya'll know if they left.

Well before two weeks ago when we got all the rain and wind my lease was covered with pintail, teal, grays and weidgon, but went out there over the weekend and not squat. So I don't know what things will be like in two weeks for the opener, but I will keep my fingers crossed.
