I don't think I have a high enough education to understand everything you said, but the jest of it was when you shoot a shotgun your head is tilted.
When I shot my head is not tilted.

Shooting 'Minutia' .....Stato-/Opto-kinetics?
Travis, you crack me up, man.....I agree with your simplified version of what shooters like us can take for granted.....the ability to point and 'smack'. Forgive us for muddying the water.
Jeff B, You're right...it IS about hand-eye coordination. The people that HAVE it, developed it in the early stages of their game because it just seemed 'natural'. Those that DON'T HAVE it, are missing some component of the equation. Some of them were left-eye dominant, but their Daddy put the ball in their right hand. I'm just trying to help those folks understand why they shoot poorly.
Now, I don't intend to 'analyze' everybody's comments.....I'm not 'pickin' on anyone. However, I DO feel the need to point-out general mis-conceptions, again, NOT to make folks look bad, but to help you become a better shooter (IF, in fact, I think I'm, somehow, capable of doing that....I don't claim to be an expert. If I was, I'd hit everything I shoot at.....that AIN'T the case!) <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote
Again, not being 'picky', 'cause your point is a valid one....it's just something else we, as shooters, tend to take for granted....until we become frustrated with not being able to hit the long shots.....and wonder WHY?
Some folks, like you, me and Travis have an easier time achieving that hand-eye coordination, than others. They're the ones I'm trying to help. Good points, guys!
Hemingway....I'm with you, buddy....sayin' the same thing.

I've heard that, too and the principle is sound as it relates to 'pointing'. I mean you basically do the same thing with a shotgun, but until you 'center' the object with your vision, your hands can't intentionally direct your gun to a 'clean kill'. This becomes more crucial, particularly with targets at long distances...like the duck that 'hangs' on the outside of the spread at 50yds). Pointing-at and being 'centered' (or 'dead-on') means the difference in droppin' that bird stone dead, or being 'off' a little bit and having to chase a cripple or.....watch him fly off with one 'dropped' leg. For instance-point your finger at an object from the hip. Note you'll be dead on every time (if you have good hand-eye coordination.

Well I don't know about all that complicated shooting stuff..seems to me that its all about hand-eye coordination. Some people have it and some don't. Those that do can shoot fairly well without all that technical stuff; those that don't have to do all that technical stuff and train more.
For instance - point your finger at an object from the hip. Note you'll be dead on every time - if you have good hand-eye coordination. You have to learn that your gun (shotgun, pistol, whatever) is an extension of your hand.
Then, point and shoot. Just my HO...
