Get you a lab from a quality line with as someone said earlier MH in either parent (or both). An all around good dog will have some sort of UKC title associated with it as well...if it is a MH dog it should be at least a HRCH dog. You will be amazed at how quickly dogs like this pick up on stuff. A golden will make an excellent pet, but you will have a daily chore cleaning up the hair....not to say labs don't shed, Lord knows they do, it's just that the hair off a golden is much more pronounced.

Dutch Dog, I have to totally disagree with you in one aspect, I have a golden and a lab, and the lab sheds more IMHO. Don't know why, can't explain it, but she does.

Do like me and get half and half. Duke is half Lab and half Golden.

For what it's worth.... he's hyper as heck, but takes commands good.

This is coming from someone that has hunted over field-bred springers for about 30 years: I've seen and hunted over some great Goldens, but I've never seen one hit the water and hunt downed birds with the desire, focus and utter intensity of a good lab. Never. Which is why my springer is now in semi-retirement while a blf does all the real work. To echo the sentiments of others, be willing to pay the small difference for proven field pedigrees on both forks of the family tree irregardless of the breed. Have heard there's a fella in Arkansas that breeds field trial Goldens. Best regards and good luck.

But it's like a buddy told me, an advantage of a yellows over blacks is that the hair is not as visible on your ice cubes!
