If Specks are the filet of geese, then how come Snow's taste so bad if they are both feeding out of the same fields?

I've never had a snow so I can't give you a good answer on that one. Snows just don't show up very much over this way. Given the opportunity I'll give one a try though.

geese are also good marinated 12-24 hours and wrapped in bacon and cooked on the grill.

I've been told, the reason snows, blues, & ross geese taste and smell a little funky in rice/bean country is that they are pulling up wheat & rice by the roots and the ingest a fair amount of this great delta soil. If you've ever seen a bunch of light geese up close, alot of them will have mud & dirt all over their face. They grub and root around in rice & wheat fields.

Specs, on the other hand, feed mainly on the seeds of rice, beans, corn etc. I'm not saying a hungry snow will not eat seeds, but they root around a bunch. I've heard people from up north say that snows & blues on their way down or back to the nesting grounds, hit the corn belt, and end up eating a bunch of corn, and they start tasting better. Several years ago, a buddy wacked a bunch of light geese and invited us over for a cookout. He made snow goose fajitas that were out of this world! I guess you just have to know how to process the meat, how to marinate them properly, etc.

On the spoonie deal, in rice fields, they tend to eat more rice as well as any inverts they can catch. I've cooked them a bunch if any are taken from a rice field. For the most part, you cant tell if your eating a gwteal or any other small duck taken in a rice field. I suspect the same rationale applies to the spoonie as far as ingesting muck while straining for inverts in any flooded field. That being said, I wouldn't shoot or eat a spoonie killed off a big reservior. I've seen those birds feeding in sewage settlement ponds, and in some nasty areas. No thanks.

Matter of fact ive seen the primos crew shooting mallards coming down to get a big ole mouth full of cow $#!+. They just stood behind a pole beside the poo and those mallards just couldnt resist that pile. Shot their limit in no time at all.

so called 'trash ducks' taste just as good in gumbo as anything else!

mallards, woodies, teal and others of the sort get soaked, stuffed, wrapped then thrown on the grill.

I was taught as a kid that the reason you duck hunt is to eat ducks. Did something change?

Everyone knew what you were talking about Bay Kingfisher. Apparently this guy is young, probably has problems with his/her sexual identity...That does complete the hunt...The fellowship of cooking and eating game taken in the field is primordial. It's instinct.

I eat just about any kinda duck...This past week I didn't have a night where the meat I was having wasn't wild game. Be it squirrel, dove, or venison.

Actually there is a great article in DW new magazine where some scientists was interviewed about eating wild game. Pretty informative.

I eat just about it all. What I don't kill/eat I give to folks that do. I don't however shoot things, then try to give it away. I normally have a few people ask if I can help, and if I can, I do. Cwink, I actually have ate a rattlesnake  . As far as yotes/bobcats, i don't eat them.

As far as type? When i go to skinning, they all get thrown in together. Ducks/Geese doesn't matter, when i soak them and prep them, there all the same.
If I don't do it, I ain't gettin nun.......So i'm doing it

In the past I only shot ducks that I was going to eat. In other words no Spoonies, Mergansers, etc... This year I'm putting the smack down on those too. Gotta have some frozen birds to throw for the dogs! I eat every puddle duck that I shoot. I love to make gumbo, or cook em on the grill.

I eat most all of 'em I shoot during the year, or give them away to folks that want to eat them. Spoonies are fine if you breast them. I tried ONCE to eat a mergie that Webfoot shot. NEVER AGAIN. There is a place in Slidel that makes awsome duck sausage.

I eat or save, sometimes give them to my friends or family members, so none of my ducks, geese, etc... go to waste.
