Season Dates, They shorted us a weekend
Season Dates, They shorted us a weekend
Opens THANKSGIVING DAY and runs straight through until jan 25. By the Federal Guidelines, the season has to end on the last Sunday in January at the latest, which is Jan 25th. So yes, we lose 6 days and part of a weekend in january. What could have been done, is to open the season on Nov 22 and 23, close and reopen the day after thanksgiving , (as has been done the past few years), and close Christmas day for our spilts. This would have given us more weekend days, and for those of us that don't want to start a season on a Holiday, we would have also not had to potentially lose Thanksgiving and Christmas. Plus, the game wardens proably could use that family time as well. So the commission voted this in. here is a link to the commission. http://www.mdwfp.com/Level2/Administrat ... ission.asp

Dear Mr. Rocket Surgeon,
Do the math:
November 27-30-------4 days
December 1-31--------31 days
January 1-25----------25 days
___________________________
TOTAL-----60 days (the maxiumum allowed in the Mississippi flyway under a liberal framework)

Nov 22 and 23 = 2
Nov 28-30 = 3
Thats 5 so far., with one split.
Dec has 31 days, take away Christmas (as I said), thats 30 days open in Dec
5+30= 35, Are you still with me?
Jan 1-25 = 25
35+25=60, at least the last time I checked. Are you on the commission?

Brah,
MS 2008-2009 season runs Nov. 27, 2008-Jan. 25 2009 without any split. Check the year of your calendar. 60 days on the dot.

EVERYONE will NEVER be satisfied...Id just STAY HOME

I welcome the chance to hunt the Holidays. Less time I have to ask off for, and, more PTO days I get to save. Thanksgiving is my Birthday as well this year...Ill be huntin' I reckon

Re: Season Dates, They shorted us a weekend
Generally those short weekend splits allow for extra weekend time. I think that's what the original poster was upset about. We get nine weekends to hunt this season, in the past we've gotten ten. Maybe the commission decided to not open prior to thanksgiving weekend to avoid upsetting all the wood goat farmers.
60 days, is 60 days, but for many 10 weekends is still more than 9. (I'm not planning on calling the commission to complain,) I'm thinking this occurrence is more a function of the last Sunday in Jan being on the 25th which is the earliest ending that calender will ever give us.
Incidentally, I feel the same way about this years dove season opening on a Monday. Seems like a wasted week of the season to me. I don't know anyone who's going to try to have a hunt during that week between labor day and the first full weekend of the season.

And if y'all will notice, not even every day we do have is equal! The days in December keep getting shorter and shorter, while the days in Jan. get longer. But, here's the real problem! The longer days in January ar not as long as the shorter days in December are short! We actually loose shooting hours because they did not put in enough long days! And I'm mad as all get out about it!

Re: Season Dates, They shorted us a weekend
I personally prefer no splits. I hunt basically everyday anyhow.
