Let the record show that both MSU and Ole Miss have offered USM large sum contracts to play football, and USM declined on both contracts. I guess we see now whose scared of who and who has the most to lose.

What does Southern have to gain from playing UM, anyway?....last time I saw them play ('73 I think), it was AT Oxford and the score was something like Officials 6.......Ray Guy 9......what's the point?

Somebody please verify that score.......and was Archie playing, then.......must not've made much of an impression on me to really remember, I guess)

gh22, open up yo ears and listen. As a well informed reader, I can assure you that you are correct in your knowledge of huge contracts. The deficiency in your knowledge is how the contracts read. State's big offer included such as playing in Starkville only, State keeping 80% of the gate, 4500 home side tickets with no receipts, and no option of playing in Hattiesburg for the duration of the contract. Southern is definitely not the best team in college ball but they have balls. Example, 3 years ago they traveled to Nebraska and gave them the game of the season. Nebraska people know football and gave USM a standing ovation at the end of the game. In 2002 Nebraska is coming to Hattiesburg so why in the world would they be afraid to play State or Ole Miss. This is the first season in years that I can remember that USM doesn't alternate either Tenn. or Florida.

Feather I'm glad you really know what the story is about the whole USM State UM matter. I don't blame the A.D. and the other powers that be not taking the offered "contract". Yeah, we're poor in $, but damn if the contract doesn't suck. I'm glad that I'm not the only Southern fan here.

The stated fact about State and UM not having anything to gain but all to lose doesn't pan out. I think bragging rights are worth a hell of alot in college football. Look at the Egg and Iron bowls.

Anyway, I'm not gonna' bragg too much on my school after the other night. God, I think Bower and Jackie must talk on the phone about keeping crappy QB's in the game. Thank God Kelly graduates this year.

By the way guys, I pull for USM, then State, then Ole Miss. Any MS team any day. My two favorite teams are Southern and anyone playing 'Bama!

Now on to duck hunting. How are things looking up-state?
