I certainly dont want to single anyone out but we had a guy come hunt with us last weekend and he brought his girlfriend (she had her license, no gun) he shot her limit and "helped" an older gentleman shoot his limit of doves that chapped my a** he wont be invited back to my field

I hunted with some guys opening weekend and they let their sons shoot part of their limit no problem with that except it taught the boys to shoot more than their share

if I shoot over the limit it is my responsibility and i know the laws and must prepared to suffer the consequences

torch was not over the limit his daughter shot several doves that afternoon i was there
many time after the hunt we pile the birds for a great picture, clean them all and let everyone get what they want to eat

i guess i should get rid of all the evidence

All I'm trying to say is watch yourself. I guide hunts and if you knew how many times everyone shot and a duck fell and no one really knows who killed it. You have to turn and say "good shot man". But from now on I will have enough straps to keep everybody straight. I just think the law is real vaugue unless they see you.

Guys this is one of the areas of the law that really stinks in the way it is often enforced AND in the way it is often abused. Let me give you an example. I have several children, all of which want to hunt and I don't have enough guns to go around at this point. I started out taking an extra child along with the idea of letting one of them share my gun. That was before I was told of people that did the same thing only get tickets because it was assumed that the extra children were there to just so the adult could pad his limit.

Now this is heresay and I have no way to verify those stories but the assumption in each case was supposedly explained as not 1 person = 1 limit but 1 gun = 1 limit. I don't know whether the birds were separated when the tickets were written or not but the result is that I changed the way I hunt. I shoot only one limit per gun. I know of nothing illegal about sharing a gun in the field but I can't afford a game warden going by assumption instead of fact in making his judgement. (If i'm wrong on this point I'd appreciate someone pointing out the reg that says sharing guns in the field is illegal.)

I understand that SOME do try to abuse the limits in such a way. It does not automatically follow however, that ALL abuse the limits when they bring more people than guns to the field. It's difficult for a game warden to know exactly what is going on unless he watches. The limits can still be abused even if birds are separated by passing them around in the blind or in the field. I don't know how they could clarify the law at this point but thing that rubs me the wrong way is the assumption of guilt over innocence. Not the way it is supposed to work.

sorry wingman, i took your post all wrong..... my fault..... hope you have a great week-end shoot, whether it be doves or ducks...... i just wished Isola wasn't so far..........ha.......

the daily bag limit is per person, not per gun. about the only way a warden could get a conviction is to witness a person harvesting over the daily limit..... if i was Torch i would contest the ticket and if it as he says i don't think any judge would find him guilty...

don't try to read too deep into the laws and don't expect to bend the rules to your advantage.... except for the waterway laws and the food locker law everything is pretty well cut and dried....

I am of the opinion that the warden has discretion over who gets written up for this. If he writes the ticket knowing that the a kid shot the doves, then he is just being an ass. Folks like that make people stereotype the good guys like SB.

I would contest it without giving it a second thought.

That is very true. The few bad apples hurt the names of all the game wardens. I have several friends that are game wardens and they are all great guys. They enforce the laws but have leniance for those that deserve it. They only write up tickets when well deserved. Scott (for example) seems to be a good game warden but he probably gets slammed alot because of all the other game wardens being jerk holes. That is my take.

Why worry now Torch. I thought you where on the dark side. Turn the new 13 year old to the dark side, just like her father. Should have seen our party hunt.

Party hunting

I have been involved in a lot of these. Several things are very important.
You can't have a pile of birds. Each person should keep his birds with him. Also if you have a limit and your checked you really should not have shells in your shotgun. A real nit picker could site you for attempting to shot over the limit. You can still call and what ever just not shoot if you have a limit in your possession! I have been involved in many warden checks and it can be easy or very difficult! Some real horror stories as well.

I've been checked by the Feds several times. Each time he told us to keep our ducks separate...A good group of guy's will take turns on the singles to make sure everyone has a good hunt..
