missed mallards as a writer

Postby missed deer » Tue Jul 29, 2008 1:46 pm

My brother has an extraordinary talent of writing and he has some unbelievable stories most of which yall here at ducksouth do not get to read. He just writes for fun i have never seen anyone in my twenty years of life write for fun, I hate it im not bad at it but i dont like doing it, I have called him several times to help me with my papers in college in which all turn out to be A's. I have been trying to get him to get in to writing as a professonial he is a literary genuis. He has writin some stories that will take you back to the good ole days. I always love reading my brothers stories he just has the talent and knows how to tell a story. Even when he is telling a story to people he can tell it time and time again and it never dulls out it gets funnier, he could be a comedian to i dont think he is to comfortable in fornt of people, well a big crowd that is. Its uncany that my brother has a gift like that and doesnt pursue it maybe yall can help and encourage him to maybe send one of his stories off to DU or any outdoor magazine. I hope he does one day so that not only I but several other people can enjoy his stories. Some of his stories last several pages, which i love how he brings you along for the ride.

Thanks for the kind words hoss.

As far as me becoming a professional writer? That’s a level of creative writing I hope to achieve one day, but as of know I haven’t been able to reach. Writing is a hobby of mine, kind of like a totty in the afternoon so to speak, it’s something I do to wind down or simply express my thoughts. Hunting is about the experience, stories, and tall tales LOL.

IMO a truly good writer brings his characters to life. He makes his reader’s involved in the story. The emotions are felt, the excitement, truly it’s an experience of it’s on to read a story that someone created. If you hang around this site for a spell, you will find out that some of our members are truly gifted at writing. Their stories will blow you away. Some of the stories I’ve read, I felt as if I was there and was experiencing the whole thing with them. Those kinds of stories are the one’s that should be placed in DU, Outdoor Life, and so on. The vocabulary, the paragraphs, and the message or messages are relayed to the reader in a peaceful flow. Every sentence, word, and paragraph flow like a calm lake in the late afternoon, it just fits.

My stories, however, are just a combination of words that I think sound good. As of know my vocabulary is limited, my stories are roughly put together, and the flow seems to be of the bouncing effect. I have not reached that plateau of being a good writer yet. I would categorize my stories as mediocre at best, but I try to expand with each story to gain something I believe I’m missing. That is one reason I post so many on msducks, it allows me the opportunity to see how different readers react to the stories. One day, yes, I hope to read one of my own stories in a featured magazine, but I have a long way to go before then.

Again thanks hoss. I don't mean to dissapoint you, but I don't think i'm quite ready. HOWEVER, if you happen to bring a case of bud light home maybe just maybe we could discuss this further LOL.

And those college papers, um yeah, I need my money!!

Gather up your best stuff and send it to an outdoor writer at any of the magazines and ask for some criticism and how you can improve. The worst they can do is say no. You do have talent, MM. If it's something you're passionate about, it would be an awesome career...
