Nothing wrong with this team that some player leadership wouldn't fix. Yeah, it's best if that leadership comes from your QB, but it's not totally necessary. This team is like a rudderless ship...it ain't goin' nowhere! We need someone who is willing to stand up and kick some butt. Not at all sure there is much character on this team. Hurts my heart to say that...I still love the Maroon and White; nothing will change that, though! Troy State!!!....Dang, boys!

for some reason i got the feeling that corso was speaking of the MSU football program as a whole as opposed to the 2001 team alone. if you look back, state has not had a superduper outstanding high caliber quaterback that i can remember. everyone knows that you it is very dificult to win a national championship without securing a top ten or fifteen ranking in the previous yeatrs. who was the last team that was not ranked in the top twenty five in the previous year that won a championship? i cannot think of one. if state had gone undefeated this year, i doubt they would attain the ever-elusive ncaa championship. especially when the ranking system is based on votes as opposed to head-to-head competition (play-off tournament similar to the nfl) i would tend to agree with him, state needs to recruit high profile quarterbacks and develop a program that will develop the quarteback into the HNIC that will LEAD a team. those kind of quarterbacks are so prevelant in champs such as florida and florida state. perhaps all it would take is one or two real good qb's to make other high-school or juco standouts interested in MSU. but how you gonna get em here when there is little chance to EARN a start over the mediocre (at best), washed-up veteran?

All I know is all the "hype" I heard before the season began about hoow good they were going to be, alot around here and a "ton" from my little brother the alumnis, and even my boss, another alumnis. They both said that Madkin was a "winner".

I think he has proved them otherwise.

I respect Sherril as a coach, especially after he turned down the Bama head coaching job, he didn't pull a "Tuberville" when he could have gone back to his alma mater.

There is no doubt he has talent, I think the coon-dog squirlies got the "big-head" after last season and the come-from-behind-win against Memphis.

Maybe next year, boys

I still say Fant could be a blue chipper if he gets the snaps. I watched him play in high school. Too bad he broke up with his girlfriend who was heading to UM.

Well, one thing is for certain.....you can't put ANY faith in preseason rankings. The biggest question back then was "Who's gonna finish last in the SEC West". I thought to myself, Who Cares? (as long as it wasn't 'my' team.) Now, the two teams everyone picked to compete for that honor (namely Auburn and Ole Miss), are sittin' on top of the 'West'.....(that could've changed over the weekend). All was 'talk', then......the season's not over, yet, but any other speculation regarding who finishes where is still 'TALK', at best. I'm sure fans of Auburn, UM, and LSU are excited to see their teams kick a big hole in the aforementioned 'scenarios', and I'm happy for them.

Oh, by the way, since MSU hasn't even gotten to the 'strength' (HA!) of their schedule (except for UF and Auburn), and have obviously crashed and burned .......and bein' as how I'm originally from Calcasieu Parish ....let me just say.........Geaux Tigers! BEAT OLE MISS!

Why is anyone surprised. The West tradionally has those favored to finish in the top actually finish in the bottom and those predicted to finish at the bottom finish at the top. This is especially true of MSU. Take a look at last year. Ole Miss and Bama were the preseason favorites and look where they finished.
