Saw a strange Duck today.

Postby Caller1 » Wed Jul 16, 2008 8:24 pm

May be setting myself up, but here goes.

Pair of birds. brown bodied, darker reddish brown breast. VERY orange bill and matching VERY long legs. Slight nasally whistling when excited or flushed up. Broad white patches on the backs of the wings. Spotted in rice field in Rome, MS. Got within 40-30 yards of them twice.

What was this?
Sound familiar?

They call them Mexican Whistlers around Houma, LA. Enough hot sauce and they could be edible.

For those interested, you can contact Nick Winstead at the MMNS or Terence Schiefer at MSU and submit a report to the MS Ornithological Society about BBWD's in the state. They are trying to keep accurate records of their sightings. Email me and I can send you one of the forms.
