Have any of yall thought...
About how much its going to cost to pump up this year. I know all my leases went up 30%. One of my holes will take 500 gallons to pump and another big brake will take 750 gallons. We must be a bunch of crazy sob's to pay this to hunt.

You could hunt places that don't require pumping.

Your right in that many things will change this hunting season

Re: Have any of yall thought...
I was riding home from work the other day.. Got behind a big old bass boat with a 200 hp engine on it.. Got to thinking about my ski boat that I sold in 05. (I had consided buying it back since it was for sale again). It had a 150 on the back. In the summer of 02 when gas prices spiked at 150.00 I went and filled up my Z71 and the boat..
2002 - Truck - 40 Gallons + Boat - 30 Gallons = 70 Gallons * 1.50 = $105.00
2008 - Truck - 40 Gallons + Boat - 30 Gallons = 70 Gallons * 3.93 = $275.00
I don't miss that Truck or that Boat as much as I thought I did..

Just got back from the field were I was talking to a local contractor. Said he's running 3 rigs 10hrs a day that are burning 18gal/hr. At $4/gal that's $2160 a day in fuel alone.

Re: Have any of yall thought...
I know a guy that's running about 2 grand a day through his well to keep up with the irrigation. That's 1 well. We bought 300 gallons the other day and it wasn't cheap. Leases are going to have to go up, and i forsee a lot less fields holding water due to the rise. Public area's are going to be fun, then again if gas keeps climbing, it might not be too bad for the people that want it bad enough.
If I don't do it, I ain't gettin nun.......So i'm doing it

At the golf course right now we are pumping 750K gallons of water a day out on the course and the landscape beds, and our well can only pump 300K gallons back in the irrigation pond.

Re: Have any of yall thought...
Hey Torch, why did your leases go up 30%? Is that the increase for fuel factored in or just landowners upping the price. The reason I ask is, with the landowner I deal with he has had people not able to afford the leases and has offered it to me. We are picking up a good bit. I have heard alot of this going on with the economy, fuel prices, and everything else going up. I've seen some farmers take less money to lock up the lease here recently. May not be your case, just woundering.

"You can not apply economics to Duck Hunting"
Fuel is going to be a tough this season!
We are putting in 2 electric pumps this year!
We had a family meeting to discuss the summer, I told the kids they could go to the beach and Disney World or I could take that money and build and redo duck blinds and pay for pumping.
It's been pretty peaceful around my house lately, My wife and kids don't talk to me any more!!!
