Boys, I need a hub for my boat. The problem arises as the hub is just a shade over 2.5" and no one in the Greenville, area can get one. Tried several places with no avail.
ya'll know where i can get one or a place i could check? Brother's been working his booty off replacing bearings and the like and other than rewiring the trailer(no biggie) he's got it just about ready for the water and we can't get the hubs.
Just curious, MM

Boat Trailer Help
If I don't do it, I ain't gettin nun.......So i'm doing it
Re: Boat Trailer Help
Funny you should mention trailer stuff today - I stopped by M&S Sales on the way into G'wood today and got some help from Mr L.C.Ellis. Seems our decoy box is heavier than what the axle on our trailer is rated for - had to buy new tires in SK last year. Do you know how hard it is to find 14" tires in a town of 236 folks? We got real lucky.
Anyway, he can probably order what you need. 662-453-1111

Re: Boat Trailer Help
If you've got something that's hard to find like you're describing, I would suggest looking into buying a new axle/hub setup just so you won't have any trouble getting parts for it down the road.
You can buy standard issue hub kits that are are ready to be installed for just a few $$ more than what a full set of bearings, races, & seals will cost you. It's possible that someone finds that exact hub you need, but at a significantly higher cost.
What happens when you need the hub for the other side? What happens two years from now, if that one goes out? What happens if it goes out while you're out of town?
I don't know what size axle/hub you may need. Look at this website. These folks are very knowledgable, and can help you measure exactly what size to order. I've dealt with this business before, and they are very friendly to deal with. If it's a trailer for a 14-16 duck boat, the axle that I've linked below will be fine assuming it's the correct length for the width of your trailer.

I could easily imagine the replacement cost of that odd sized hub/bearings you need exceeding the cost of a new axle and new hubs. If I can install one of these myself, anyone can. This one is new and uses readily available replacement parts, which in my opinion is the biggest consideration.
Good luck.

10 foot trailer 5 thousand full body decoys. I'd say I would have to agree with the load over axle bearing ratio.

May end-up buying a whole new trailer with beefed-up axle and springs. I think it's the BOX that weighs so dang much.

Re: Boat Trailer Help
Maybe I'll just glue some wings and fins sticking out the sides - to get some 'lift'.......
Maybe I can get some ideas at the upcoming Delta Cruiser Auto Show and Model Competition in Cleveland. Winner gets to pose for a calender with 1st place in the Big Body division.
HUH?
Take your pick......car body or human body.
Ya think folks in Canada would freak-out if they saw 'spinners' on a decoy trailer?
Probably wouldn't have much luck getting permission to hunt.

2.5 dust cap NAPA number 730-2418. 2.44 cap 730-2411. Most stores should stock these.
