Just wondering what your best chooses of guns where and why. I like my remington 1200 sportsman pump in a full choke. It holds a great pattern at 35 yards shooting #2 steel shot and has plenty of knock down power.

I'll join in the fun...

I loved my Ithaca Model 37 featherlight until steel shot was mandated. I shot that gun for 16 yrs and killed more ducks and deer with it than I'll probably kill the rest of my life. It has a 30" full choke barrel, with vent rib, and that lovely red/orange sight. I liked that bead LONG before Tru-Glo and the others came along.

I shot an 870 Wingmaster 3" Mag for 10 yrs after that and now I have just bought myself a Winchester SX2 in 3.5". I haven't hunted with it but it shoots fine at paper targets.

I'm just looking forward to the ducks so I can see what it will do on the water.

My favorite so far is the Browning BPS. 22" barrell, improved cylinder for ducks, full for turkeys, composite stock, flat black finish with fiber optic sights to help get on that first bird of the morning. It kills ducks, it kills doves, it kills turkeys, it kills deer, it kills clays and tin cans, it's a push pole, it's a boat paddle, it's an ice breaker, it's a shovel, and when that's all over it will still slay ducks and with a little coat of RemOil it looks like it just came out of the box. Short barrel swings fast on ducks and doesn't get tangled up in the underbrush come turkey season.

Landscaper,
It can also be run over by a truck at the boat ramp and still shoot straight!

Pintail, that sounds like a story that needs to be shared with the rest of us! Some funny things happen at the ramp.......!

Here it is,

Well, it all started with my 870 being stolen, 2 days before season was out. I couldnt miss the last days so I went on a tear and bought a brand new BPS synthetic stock 3 inch in Starkville. It was really the first gun I had bought on my own, so I was pretty proud of it. We hunted that afternoon and the jewel killed both ducks I shot at. When we got back to the ramp I propped the not even stratched gun on my buddies truck and walked over to put in the harvest sheet. The next thing I new my ole buddy had driven over to kindly pick me up, and as I asked him where he put my gun I saw his eyes grow to the size of baseballs. Needless to say he ran all over it, grinding it into the gravel below, but you know what picked it up dusted it off and from that day on I have been a Browning man.

This Story will never match the stories that will be told after opening day of these no boats in water to 5:30 management areas ! ha

I also used the model 37 before the no-tox shot years. Bought the 835 ulti after. I know that a lot of folks don't like this gun but it has not let me down yet. I have had it since the early 90's.
What do you guys think of the new Model 37s? anyone shot one yet?

No idea about the new 37s but I do love the old ones. I wore out a 20 gauge when I was a kid, then bought a 12 gauge later on. Still have the 12 and love to shoot doves with it. Neither gun ever malfunctioned in any way, and I have been known to be a little rough on things like that!!! I would be interested in hearing about any experiences with the "new" ones too!!!

Bamaduck, that's a really hard question.....and one I'm not qualified to answer.........primarily 'cause I've only field tested a 870, a A-5, and a Super 90. Since there more than 200 other guns out there that could be used for duck hunting (legally), I couldn't begin to guess which one is 'BEST'.

........Remington 1200 'Sportsman'. 'Sounds like a conjunction of multiple patent infringements.

I have an 11-87 and a SBE..both shoot great, the 1187 costs 1/2 as much, (it has jammed a few times, prob. bc I didn't clean it.)

unkljohn I bought a new model 37 waterfowler 2 years ago and havn't used it that much but I still like it. I have always been a big 870SP man. bought one when they first came out about 14 years ago and have bought 3 more since. BUT I bought a super X-2 3.5 last year and it is my favorite it will shoot with half a rice field inside it. any gun that can consistantly hold up hunting out of a mummy boat is a tough S.O.B. and the super X-2 is the gun.

I love my SBE, but have to say the best gun I've owned is my Beretta AL390--it's nine years old has never missed a lick. The Benelli is so sweet, but has been back once for repairs--ejector pin--covered under warranty.

Best? Model 12 or 870 for idiot proofness. I would say dollar for dollar day in and day out the Beretta 390 for an auto. I have had horrible experiances with SBE's, and good experiance with Browning Golds, so I must have some weird gun karma.
