God works in strange ways....in 1997, I was involved in a wreck with an 18wheeler, doing approxiametely 50mph. He crossed 3 lanes of traffic and I hit him head on, resulting in my 95 Ford F150 being wedged under his trailer. He pulled me another 80 feet into a gas station, before realizing my truck was under his trailer. I had to get into the passenger seat to keep from being crushed. Well, to make along story short, I was hurt pretty bad. The 4 lowest vertebrae in my back were crushed...after months on therapy and years of back pain, I'm still putting off an operation. My guard unit is being deployed this week and my name was on the list. They signed me up for a physical yesterday after my last one was found to be in 96. The doctor asked questions about Dr. visits and any hospital stays...I answered the questions that the Dr. asked and after about 15 minutes he told me that I wasn't going "anywhere". I'm on profile for medical reasons until my time is up in December. Never in a million years would I have ever thought that wreck would possibly save my *ss in the long run. I hate it for the guy that had to replace me and I apologized to him for it. Truth be known, I volunteered to go in someone else's place that is having his first child in December. Hope ya'll don't think bad of me, but I worry about my family now, which I didn't have when I enlisted 10 years ago.

Glad you will still be with us, St. John. There are other good men who can take your place. Enjoy your kids while you can.
P.S. We popped 2 limits of doves in the marsh this afternoon.
