Generally speaking, LT is still the AD for another three weeks. Ron felt like he should've been the one making the decisions.........ie let Raffo have the job. If Ron wanted Raffo to have it, he should've retired after the CWS, and Raffo would've been promoted because LT let Ron run every facet of the program.
Ron caused Raffo not to get it. Bryne decided to prove a point to the ole bulldog, and he did. Ron kept beating a dead horse with the Raffo deal. Raffo had been offered a couple of head coaching jobs in recent years, but he was told by someone (Ron) to decline the offers and that he would have the program turned over to him.
That's the only reason Raffo stayed so long. If Raffo was going to be given a chance, it should've been done after Patty Mac left.
I've always thought the world of Ron Polk, but he went over the line on this one. Everyone think back to the UK series. Remember Polk getting kicked out of all 3 games? He did it in an intentional, unintentional way to make the series a Raffo vs. Cohen deal. I don't care what people say. He did it because all everyone was talking about was Cohen being the successor. He argued two calls that weren't even close.......nowhere near worthy of forcing an argument.
Ron has always taken up for his boys.......that's a fact. But, there is a right way to go about doing it, and this wasn't it. You don't call candidates, and tell them they don't have your support and would be getting no information on the players, especially when one of them is one of your own. As the face of MSU baseball, why would you do like Polk said and let a candidate, whom wasn't the best available, have four years to run the program. Then if you didn't like it.....fire him. I bet that made Tommy feel really good. TR was caught in the middle, and don't you know that one time or another he wanted to tell RP to shut up.
