Well congratulations......the pup has trained you to let him out of his crate when he whines, now.Greenhead22 wrote:I'm using the crate, only time he gets out is when he wakes up and starts whinning.

What'd you do?.......spread some newspaper on the living room carpet and whiz on it to show him that's where he's 'spose to 'go'?So far he relieved himself 4 times in the house, finally caught him in the act the last time and think I got my point across.

Yeah.....usually after 12 double-rolls of 'Bounty' and yo hands stay wrinkled from moppin-up 5 gallons of luke-warm puppy piss, you start to get the 'feel' of it, alright. But yeah, when you can anticipate when he's fixin' to spring a leak, take him outside.....even if you have to pick him up and literally take him outside.I'm starting to pay more attention to him and starting to get a better feel of when he wants to go potty.
Anne says you oughta name him 'Amen', 'cause we ALL gonna be prayin' for yo dog........

Look......I know it's your first dog. Like I told you the other day, you're gonna have to be REAL patient and use some common sense (uh.....'might have to borrow some from somebody else:D). Dog ain't gonna mess-up the only place he has to lay for the next however-many hours......he don't know when you're coming back. If you keep him in the crate INSIDE, then take him directly outside as soon as you let him out of the crate. When he squats......tell him, "Good Boy!" and praise him 'cause he's doin' what you want him to.... WHERE you want him to. When you catch him doing it inside, tell him "No!", gently pick him up and carry him outside and put him on the grass. It ain't his fault, 'cause you haven't figured-out the timing and method of correction, yet. Sometimes, it's just a matter of repetition.
Just try to be fair with the dog and don't punish him unless you're positive he knows better or because you're just frustrated 'cause you can't figure-out how to communicate with him. Raisin' a puppy for a companion is a full-time job......if you ain't up to it......you're gonna let HIM down. Be PATIENT! Keep trying. I give you a hard time, but I'm still pullin' for ya. Good luck!
