Ducks would be nice but in that heat and grass long retrieves gona get nasty. With the dummys everyone has the same thing.PLUS it is a big cost that would be pulling away from what this is all about raisin money for charity. Also the ribbons are a big expense too....Dont try to fix what aint broke

Guys,

I think the format was great this year. (Of course I did, thanks to Gabe I brought home some great hardware!!! :D )

However, I can see where pass/fail in the junior/puppy levels would allow more people to feel excited about winning something. You had quite a few newcomers not familiar with the game who I think caught the bug on Saturday. I can think of at least 2 guys who stopped by Headquarters asking about the next/nearest HT. They'll catch the bug even more if they take home a ribbon.

But definitely keep the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, for the bigger dogs/higher levels.

I do think it would be nice to have birds for the OPEN, even if it had to be in the 2nd series. That would cut down on how many you need, right?

Figure out how much ribbons & the other awards cost, and find a sponsor SPECIFICALLY to underwrite that cost. If you want real birds, figure out that cost and get a sponsor for that.

CC, you's a great Chief, and you absolutely need to keep wearing that hat. BUT, you've got lots of folks who would be glad to be your Indians for the day. We've just got to get all those ideas out of your brain and give folks their marching orders!!! That way you can enjoy the day more just watching all of us work. :)

If we can get enough workers and grounds to have as many tests as possible running at the same time that would be best. A posted schedule so people know what's going on would be GREAT!!! That would have been a big help at HQ this year. (Remember, we had LOTS of people not familiar with how HT work.) Having a scheduled awards presentation at headquarters early enough that most folks are still around would be a great finish before we get to the social hour!!!

Sorry for the long post. That's my 50 cents worth. I'll be glad to do what I can to organize.

Here's my thoughts on how you do it in one day.......

8:00am sharp - Open dogs first round (land) - cut to top 5 for the afternoon.
8:00am - Junior Handlers Event - (doing it first allows the dogs plenty of time to get to open)
9:00am sharp - Puppies Run
10:00am sharp - Junior dogs

Lunch

1:00pm sharp - Senior dogs
4:00 pm - Open Final on Water (Top 5 dogs) (That gives 8 hours to get the open land completed plus some rest time).
5:00 pm - Awards
6:00 pm - Social........

Same judges for Pups/Jr/Senior. Run pups/jr/sr from the exact same place. Run the open at different location. Only 4 Judges required. Only the open will be running at the same time as the other events. It gives ample opportunity for everyone to watch whatever they like and keeps the movement down. Also, everyone will be done to all come together and watch the Open Dog Finals.

My thoughts were when helping come up with a format that we keep everyone together as much as possible.

I think it was a good format. I do agree with BigDawg on aiming to wrap everything up mid afternoon. (Even though I had to leave early) To do this, it will definitely require more Judges, Marshalls, and Bird Boys. All of these to be signed up leading up to the event. Run Senior and Junior on the same set up, but adjust the distance by moving up the line for Junior. Make at least 1 callback with the top scoring dogs and really step up the challenge in the 2nd series of marks. Post scores after the event so you can see how your dog ended up. Maybe start all dogs out with 10 points on each mark and have pt deductions. Top dogs move on.

I like the step up in Open dogs to a more challenging format such as SRS setup. Regardless if it takes longer, this should be run totally separate and dogs asked to be picked up if they are having trouble to keep things moving. I know its for Charity and people want to run the marks they paid for, but do so in Senior or Junior.

E-collars should not be allowed on the grounds IMO. It needs to be a fun event, with just enough competition to make it worth training for. Use the collars at a Training Day.

Would also be fun and could raise some extra money if we could have a speed dog and/or slash dog competition. This would be ongoing off to the side and would require say $5 for each run made. Winner takes a gift cert or something.

Just some thoughts I had. It was a great event and CC you da man!

Was my running my pup with a collar on a problem? If so I apologize. I tried to keep corrections to a minimum. It was a valuable experience for him but needed to be done with a collar.

Thanks to all who put on the event.

Personally i see no prob with running with a collar. You were not in contention just donating $ to run the setup. I really dont think a collar offens the people who will be workin a dog. 99% will be using one at sometime or another. Its part of it.JMHO
