Frogs-is shooting them illegal?
What's the rule? I've never officially seen the regs on froggin'.
And another question: We floated the Sunflower River last night and got a few....but what about the toxicity issue? You know how the State has all those posters up about not eating but two meals a month of certain fish from certain waters. Would this apply to frogs as well? Seems like a big bullfrog could be as old as some of those big catfish in the Sunflower, and I'm wondering if the same thing would apply to the frogs.

Don't know about the chemical build up in'em but if they glow in the dark leave'em.
Read somewhere only thing you can gig in Ms is frogs and flounder. Have you ever heard of the Shutkatch spring loaded gripper for frogs. Put one on about a 12' cane and reach out and touch them. Don't let it go off on your hand! Cost $6, kinda hard to find though.

Den, wonder if I could mount a 110 coni on a pole and use that? Hehe. I wonder if Cumberland's Trapping Supply will have some of those gadgets you're talking about?
So, what you're saying, Don Miller, is no AK's or Uzi's, huh? We're cool.

Got my grabber at Pickerings in Collins looks like it had been hanging there for quite awhile. Couldn't find the card it came on for the address. Years ago had good luck with trident tip on a spear gun, Hehe.
If you hit they didn't usually get away. You'd be alright with the conibear as long as you didn't put a bug or butterfly for bait on it. They sometimes can be caught with popper and flyrod in daytime if they're showig but the tongue gets all wound around the hook.
Have you noticed they have a wide range of diet: Other frogs, crawfish, fish, and bugs. One got in Mother's gold fish pond and ate the goldfish.

Ordered two of these this afternoon from SBT outdoors. Maybe they'll work. Kept having frogs jump in the river last night only to sink to the bottom...biguns too.
Name brand is B&M fish spears, they had a pile of 'em.
Hehe, I have a pic of a frog in a 220 last winter, one day after a warm front came thru.

Hey Wing, even though thats a wicked looking spear fish head, that's what it is. The barbs are positioned to spring out when going in a fish, holds the fish with the tension, hope it'll work right on frogs. This Shutlatch gizmo is cocked and when you hit the frog 2 arms close that have 2 inward pointing points that sieze the frog. Haven't had time to track one down. Those things you're buying look like the spear that originated in Polenesia used by native surface spearfishermen. Hope it works out. Everbody's kiddin about the 22 but I wouldn't until I was sure. Oughta be somebody in Greenwood that's got the grabbers. You gonna have to find a real old sports shop.

Den, I've never speared any fish, so I don't have a clue, but that is the only one on that site that was advertised as a "frog gig". All of the others, the pitchfork/trident types were labeled "fish spears." Oh well, we'll find out soon.

I looked all around for a good gig pole, and considered easy to come by alternatives, but finally came across a good find. We bought a retractable swimming pool net pole for 20.00. Perfect balance! I like the gig pictured above but ended up going with the b&m 3 and 4 prong gigs and two cases of cold snacks.

I'm blind as a bat. It ain't shutlatch its Shurkatch.
Trying to read the stamped metal and rust. Anyway try http://www.douglasnets.com/shurkatch/product.html for No.2 spring action gaff. Might be a little high $18 or what?
Oh, try this place kinda lame but its got a frog gig like you bought. http://www.lessra.com or something like that. Ain't working, oh well. Found it searching "frogging". Evidently that type spear you got is built the same way but this one don't even have barbs so you might be OK.

Depends on the terrain. Shine the lite on a farmpond and all the heads stinking up in the algea reach out with long pole and grabber. My luck when I try to get close end up spooking the whole lot. Some states though have the "no brake the skin" rule and you gotta grab'em. Something about if you gig and miss he's gonna die. Just makes it easier, but if you're giging and missin, that's bad. Mo. has the 22 rifle license. The grabber is whole lots better than plain gig when you can't get close.
