Woodies and chimneys.

Postby Wingman » Tue Apr 01, 2008 5:28 pm

A friend of mine just called me to report a woodie hen came down his chimney about an hour ago and he had to catch it in his kitchen.

I call that a gift from God; manna from heaven.

Seriously, he let it go, but called to ask if I had any bands to put on it. He has always had ducks in his yard and had to take down some of the boxes because he had so much dump nesting.

Now he has a Cooper's or either a Sharp-shinned hawk catching hens as they come out of the boxes in the morning and attacking his martins at his gourd rack.

One of my customers found a dead wood duck on the floor of his hunting camp a few years ago. When he picked it up he noticed it was banded. This was in a deer camp around Waynesboro.
When it come's to duck calling and duck killing its the indian not the arrow!

I'm not familiar with this term. What does it mean?

Thanks.

Messed up is correct. Several hens take turns, so to speak, laying eggs in the same box until there are several dozen eggs in the box and they all abandon it. Usually happens when there are several boxes in close proximity to one another.
