Turkey season limits/and the people who don't care?
Turkey season limits/and the people who don't care?
Just an issue I have been wondering about lately.
I know several people who kill more than the state limit of turkeys each season. Some of these people
kill upwards of 10 turkeys per season. I have never killed over 2 in a season, but when faced with the
opportunity to kill more than 3, I do not really care to do it. I think the limit is there for a reason, and
really have mixed issues when it comes to these people that kill more than thier legal limit.
I do not think there is a way to actually enforce the issue, but do you think this hurts our population
of turkeys as a state??? As a comparision to TX, MO, OK, etc. , we do not have the numbers of out of state hunters.
Just really think its not fair for people to kill more than 3 turkeys a season.
Any comments???

Yes, it affects the turkey population. I have issues with these type of people as well. I'd recommend turning them in to the local game warden.
Re: Turkey season limits/and the people who don't care?
Even if they were turned in... How would anybody prove that they killed more than 3 in the season.
What alerted me to this subject is the fact that a guy I know killed his 4th turkey this morning,
then later right before lunch he shot 2 more in one shot. So his total for the season is 6.
I just think its kinda being a hog.
I could care less what people do, i just think a real hunter is held to a certain standard, and to continue to enjoy
the priveledge of hunting there are limits, and they are there for a reason.

I have the same situation. A guy that hunts my buddies place is on number 4 and it kind of pizzes me off.
I'll admit, part of it is jealously cause i haven't killed one, but it is just wrong and I don't know how to address it.
Any suggestions?

I'd talk to the GW and let them worry about the proof part - I'm sure they deal with this all the time.

And we do have alot of people from out of state coming to MS to hunt turkeys. Arkansas just comes to mind. I have encountered several of the fockers hunting on my land in ***** county. They said "Well sorry, we thought it was public land. Yall should have better maps and have the areas marked better. How were we to know what is public and what is private?". I guess the posted signs, gate, and barbedwire fence are what they are used to hunting on as public land over there. Also, have you ever seen a 500 acre hay field on a refuge.
Turkey hunters are a different breed. I have never met one that could read the letters P-O-S-T-E-D.
Turkey hunting is rapidly becoming next big thing in the hunting world which in itself has become the cool thing to do. Everybody wants to have something else to take a picture with. I had a discussion with a good friend yesterday and we agreed on the fact that every acre has a "turkey hunter" on it. Sorry if I hijacked the thread but I had to rant.
Oh and for all you "turkey killers", B-Mobile is to turkey hunting what the robo duck was to duck hunting. Mark my word.

I see your point, but even though you are a little jealous that he has killed some turkeys, that still doesn't
give him the right to kill more than 3 per year.

You have the same situation with Deer... Until they go to a Tag system like Tx has.. It will be hard to stop/curtail it..
