crappie help

I just got access to a lake that is supposed to be full of crappie.

I went and casted road runners for a while Saturday and never got a hit. A friend's girlfriend was with us and she did catch 3 on a mini frog so I do know they are there.

I just don't know anything about crappie fishing. I know they good to eat and I want some :)

Its about a 60 acre lake. There are some stumps submerged in the lake and marked by sticks. Much of the lake around the edges is 3 to 4 feet deep, there are many piers/docks and some brush around the edge.

Near the dam it is 20 to 27 feet deep.

Where do I start?

any help is appreciated. thanks

go get you some jigs boy.
stab a minnow on the end.
fish varying depths until you catch one.

i would start right now(with the weather and time of year) with an ultra light rod a cork and some shinners in about 3 to 4 foot of water. FISH AT NIGHT. as these species of fish start there spwan earlier than others, such as bass bream...ect.
.....................use small aberdean hook, and slit shot sinkers.

Best thing to do would be to get you some minnows. Find what depth they are bighting at. Then drop a jig to that depth and see if they are bighting on them. This will save you a little money on the minnows. If it is a small lake or personal pond you would probably do best with the minnows.

This time of year they are starting to stage near the edge of the shallow water. However they want move shallow until the water temps get in the 60's for several consecutive days. Get you some jigs and minnows and hit them stumps around the end of the month. As for right now get you wome minnows and fish Deep around the ledges

me and my 5 yr old son went this afternoon and fished from the bank. caught 2 small ones. didn't feel like getting the boat out.
