Poison Ivy

Postby ACEINTHEHOLE » Wed Feb 27, 2008 10:43 pm

Who all is very allergic to it? I get it really bad. Have had it the past three weeks on my face. Even had it one week in a worse spot than that. What do you guys use to treat it once you get it, and is there anything you use to keep from getting it?

Prayers sent. I'm lucky enough to not be allergic but I have seen many friends go through it. I'm sure it is miserable, especially if its where you say it is.

Some will tell you to drink your own urine, but that only works right after the symptoms first appear.

I've got it on my arm right now. I got some stuff from Walmart called IVAREST to relieve the itch and kinda dry it up. I guess its working.

I'll take it the drinking of your own urine didn't work for you????

I am very allergic to it. That stuff Paul harvey talks about works for me. I think it is call zanyphil. You get it at wal mart pharmacy. Ours you have to ask for it but that stuff works for me.

I go straight to the clinic at the first signs of it. She gives me a shot and a Zpak.

I can tell I have it long before it breaks out. The affected area starts to get real hot. Thats when I head to the Doc.

I get it pretty bad. The best way to cure it that I have found is to get a knife or something fairly sharp and scrape over the blisters. Once you have all of the blisters opened and oozing, get a rag and rub bleach over it. It will dry it up in about 2 days plus the itch is gone instantly. Burns a little bit though.

Also, for me, if I take a shower within about 4 hours after I know I have been in it, I will not get it.

I am very allergic to the vines. I can roll around in the leaves on the ground and never itch, but if I brush against those ole hairy vines on a tree, it's brutal. I have good luck with Zanfel. It's worth the price if you have it pretty bad. I have also found some Aveeno itch cream that seems to work well. As far as OTC stuff goes, though, there is no beating Zanfel.

As far as not getting it, I've used Ivy Block the past couple years and it has kept me from getting it during our annual firewood gathering which used to always result in me getting it.

If I know I have been around it, then I will put a cup of bleach in a tub full of water and soak for about 10-15 minutes. Has worked so far and my hair has never looked better!

i have had it from my head to my toes and everywhere in between. i once had it so bad on my feet that i could not wear shoes. it was on the top of my feet, on the bottom and in between all of my toes. talk about a nightmare. i took a hair brush and rubbed them raw and then stuck them in straight bleach. i cussed like a pirate for a few hours but it dried it up. decadron shot works the best.
