Deer River Test

Postby Faithful Retrievers » Wed Feb 27, 2008 12:13 pm

Anyone going or have any idea what the directions are. I would like to go over and run my dog if they have any spots available. She ain't ready but I need to get out of this office. Goosebruce I saw where you were judging, do you know how far it is from Jackson, TN.

It is just outside of Alamo, Tn, off of Hwy 54. I emailed the hunt secretary 3 days ago for driving directions and have not heard from him yet. The premium is listed on EntryExpress, but no directions. I think they have closed all classes. A buddy of mine tried to get in Monday, he said theys full up. Thanks, Wade

entry express is cut off, but the club does have just a couple spots opened up in seasoned & finished, plenty of room in started. you can call jon butler at 731-668-5381 with your entries. I am judging, but we did swap around and I'm in seasoned. Even after all these years of judging, Im not aa in seasoned, and I need to be for something else coming up. So the club nicely agreed to let me swap to finish that requirement.

coming I40 east, take the 412 bypass (its either esit 78 or 79). the hotel is right there, on the right the days inn. you're going to go west on 412 toward alamo. take the alamo exit (88), theres a sign there for horns bluff refuge (big twra sign). the test is actually on the refuge. you'll come to a 4 way stop, go straight thru that (it becomes state route 54 at the point though), 5 or 6 miles. turn left on 152 and you'll soon see the shop. signage will be up when you get close. travis

Might just have to run season so I can run under you. Can I tie her up when I shoot the gun? She hasn't heard a gun shot since January 25th. :D

Here is kind of a picture of the water test. Line is at the bottom of the page and area is alot duckier than it looks on paper. Pretty tight little area. First bird comes out right about 60 yards amongest trees and lands on island (sometimes). Swing to middle mark about 100 then to left mark about 75 or so. Dog picks up 3, 1, 2. On way back from mark 2 diversion is shot in clump of trees next to the line. Then run blind back across hole. Some dogs had a little trouble getting back to mark 2 and a few wanted to go back toward mark1 off the blind. Pretty straight forward, but I thought it was a little much for a seasoned test.
ok so that was really finished water

Am i seeing things or is that an inline double on birds 2 and 3. If so i can totally understand why most dogs had trouble on bird #2. That concept is not something a dog does naturally. You must teach a do to do that set of marks. You will see this concept alot in master test. First time i've seen it in a finished test. Looks like it was a great test. Wish i would have been there to run it.
