100% Satisfaction With Decoys

Postby SoftCall » Tue Feb 19, 2008 10:04 pm

Is there anyone out there that is completely happy with the brand of decoys that they use? If so, what are you using and why are you happy? Based on everything that I have read about any decoys and based on personal experience, none of them are really worth a crap. The old G&H's get the most durable award IMO but I think they have gone downhill too...

The ones that you like the best are going to be the ones that give you 100% satisfaction...I have hunted with around 50 hunters every year over the past 4 or 5 years and I have never heard two say they like the same decoy the best. And most of them did'nt have just one kind either they had 6 of these 6 of those type thing going.

oh yeh i have started coating all of my decoys with a satin polyurethane. even my full bodies. so this might help your dekes stay looking good longer

G & H for the durability and availability of touch up pain. GHG for the looks.

GHG (green head gear) are really good deaks...however its not easy to find them without a weighted keel. I like to travel light but i guess you have to sacrifice somethings.

I like Higdon. They have a good paint job and are realistic. Warning: They are foam filled and are a little heavier. This allows them to sit higher in the water. I also don't use any keel at all and get more movement that way.

It seems like cripple-stopping causes collateral damage to about 15 or 20 decoys a season. I'm just happy if they float...

We just bought some of them and they look really good. Hopefully they will hold up.

Jtdu, what issues did you have with the first box of real images? I'm seriously considering buying some this year. I know a fella that had some in his boat last year, and those decoys looked incredible. They would be going in the 12 slot bags and be used strictly for boating in. G&H standards with the sand let out for walking in.

My main problem with GHG floaters are the weight. You get a big back of any weighted keel GHG's and it'll break your back just trying to pick them up. I really like the GHG full body mallards and pins. Hunted over some of the GHG floater specs and FFD full body specs and they look amazing.

There are a few hand painted G&H canadas mixed in with the GHG specs.

I sprayed mine with Matte Clear Krylon. Seemed to help.

If you were 100% satisfied you wouldn't feel the need to go out and buy more.. It is a marketing gimmick.. Make them cheaper, and you will sell more..
