Promise Keepers
AJ, there is a God. The God I believe exists has a son. His name happens to be Jesus Christ. This Jesus Christ dude lived a perfect life. My God teaches that a person should strive to live like Jesus did. I try, but I fail. I am unable to live my life like Jesus Christ did. The God I believe in knew this, and decided to let His Son be killed because I cannot live up to Him. In doing so, God decided He would let it be okay for me not to be perfect, like Jesus Christ is perfect. My God tells me if I will believe that He allowed His Son to die a miserable death for me, then He would allow me to live in a place called Heaven for eternity. My God also tells me a person will suffer for all eternity should they decide not to believe Jesus Christ saved them by dying. My God is also very special because He somehow made Jesus Christ come back and live. What if all this is a nice story, but not reality? What if it is true? I am by no means a perfect person, but I am a Christian, which means I actually believe what I just told you. I ask that every Christian on this board pray and ask God to show AJ that He exists, and to give AJ the choice to accept or deny. I ask the Christians to pray everyday at noon, CDST.

I mearly stated that some people reading this forum may be offended by pushing Christianity on the forum if they were to believe in something else. No need to hold a revival right here, right now. You do your thing, I'll do mine. WHY CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG?. I'm out on this topic.

I am with you too man. I'm glad that we both see it as something that is important enough to fight for. I am also in very much agreement with you on defending it through our constitution. Our points come together in the fact that through the constitution we may offend someone. I just hope offending someone doesn't stop us from keeping the faith and running the race.
You are also right about praying out loud for show. Unfortunately, we can not see into poeple's heart and tell what their intentions are. Just let me say that we are in this together, and if you ever needed help with anything concerning these issues I will help you in anyway I can. That goes for the rest of my christian brothers too.

If anyone reading this board ( believer or unbeliever ) has any spiritual questions that need answering, let me suggest that you read a book called "The Purpose Driven Life", by Rick Warren. It is only $12 at Wal-Mart. Read it - I dare you!
If every aspect of your life does not totally change for the better after reading this book, then you are either in denial of the truth or just too scared to be a real man.

Anyone that is reading this board, walking or breathing needs to buy and read " The purpose driven Life". It is one of the most incredible books I have ever read. It is very strange, a friend gave it to me to read about a month ago. I saw three different people on one plane reading it. I was walking on the beach in Gulf Shores last week, and saw two different people reading it. It has an incredible effect on people. I have stopped, and spoken with these people I have seen reading. All they have said is " Wow!".
This is no longer a vacation, this is a quest, a quest for fun---Chevy Chase.

One thing I've learned in My experience is that regardless of the church you attend or what version of the bible is the correct one....You got to believe in a Supreme being....I'm a catholic my wife is jewish...big differences in religion but you know what WE both know that the is a God she spells it G_D
and when it comes down to it we both pray in our own way. Does it matter that we think different on many matters NO...
Bottom line is We both are very thankful that we have GOD in our lives and if I could amount to a stone under MY Lords sandals I'd be a Happy Man

The PK's that I have dealt with around Central Ohio seem awfully radical in their views of a woman's place in society. Not that I am a woman's lib guy or anything, but I respect my Mother and what she's done for me and would never consider her the "lesser" sex as some of the PK followers have implied their beliefs are. I am curious: is this an accurate depiction of the views of PK? Do they consider males to be the uber-sex? I'm curious. Someone with the knowledge help me out.

I may not be qualified to answer your question, but I've attended 2 PK conferences. I would have to strongly disagree with your depiction. PK's belief is that the male is the ordained spiritual leader in the home. That's how God created and intended it to be. If you look at the 7 promises of a Promise Keeper, you'll see their mission:
1. A PK is comitted to honoring Jesus through worship, prayer and obedience to God's word in the power of the Holy Spirit.
2. A PK is committed to pursuing vital relationships with a few other men, understanding that he needs brothers to help him keep his promises.
3. a PK is committed to practicing spiritual, moral, ethical and sexual purity.
4. A PK is committed to building strong marriages and families through love, protection, and biblical values.
5. A PK is committed to supporting the mission of his church by honoring and praying for his pastor and by actively giving his time and resources.
6. A PK is committed to reaching beyond any racial and denominational barriers to demonstrate the power of biblical unity.
7. A PK is committed to influencing his world, being obedient to the Great Commandment and the Great Commission.
A little long winded, though I believe once you read these, you'll see that they simply want to return men to live in integrity and righteuosness.

That's why I asked. I didn't know those facts and asking is the only way to find out. Remember, if you take 100 people and have them read something- you'll probably have 50 different interpretations. There are Christians who feel that it is ok to blow up abortion clinics because it's God's word.

My view of PK is a strong personal belief in Jesus Christ and a strong belief in the family and moral values.

Satan believes in God. Having belief in a "Supreme Being" isn't the point. Believing that Jesus-God the Son-came to earth to live a human life and die a human death so that we humans could choose to believe or not....that's the point.
The Jews are God's chosen people. It started way back about 10,000 years ago. Follow it through the Bible, Esau and Jacob....Jacob had 12 sons, Moses led the Israelites (Israel was Jacob after God changed his name) out of Egypt.
Why were the Jews in Egypt? Remember when Joseph's brothers sold him to some Ishmaelites? Joseph...to make a long story short, worked his way up to a position of power in Egypt, under the Pharoah. When famine struck the surrounding land, his brothers ended up coming to Egypt to buy grain from the huge stores of grain that the Egyptians kept. Guess who they met? Yep, their brother, Jo.
Now, since they found out their brother, Joseph, was still alive, the whole fam moved to Egypt, and over the course of many years, the Israelites grew to a massive number. (They were put in Goshen, some of the most fertile land in Egypt. The Israelites were shepherds, and the Egyptians detested sheep herders. So, in ignorance, they "sent" them to Goshen, and in turn, the Israelites multiplied and prospered) Long after Joseph died, Moses led them out of slavery(GOTTA READ ABOUT THE PLAGUES) and into the desert. An 11 day trip turned into 40 years (read about it in Exodous), but the Israelites finally went into the "Promised Land" of Caanan, which was then named Israel.
The Israelites enjoyed hundreds of years of a wonderful life, led by God, but they also suffered under the rule of various peoples whom God let rule them as a result of their disobedience to God. (Sounds like the story of MY life). Who was the coolest king, you ask? Why, David, of course! Anybody who can smoke a 9 foot-tall Philistine with a single rock to the forehead is at the top of my list!
Finally, as described by my man, Isaiah, "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever." Isaiah 9:6-7
Now this is where the Jews and Christians differ. We both believe the Old Testamant, but Jews only believe that Jesus was a prophet, a mere human, that was a really good man. THAT, my friend, is the dividing line.
Jesus knew that not everybody would accept Him. The Pharisees and Saducees despised Him the most because they claimed he was blasphemous in His claim to be God. They tried to kill Him several times, but only on that hill, on the cross, when the prophecy was fulfilled as told thousands of years before, did God die for us.
He could have called down LEGIONS of angels to totally obliterate anyone who opposed Him. But He didn't. Yeah, Jesus refers to God as His Father. And rightly so, as Jesus was not God the Father, but God the Son. Confusing....man, yeah. I can't explain the Trinity. That's where Jehova's Witnesses become flabergasted with me. I can't explain the air we breathe, either, but I know I breathe it and I know air is there.
John 1:1 and 2 says it best:
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning."
That is my proof, that is the foundation of my belief. That is why I can say with utmost confidence that Jesus was God and is God and always has been God. God is 3 parts, and God is one. "I and the Father are one" says Jesus; John 10:30.
God is not a Supreme Being....God IS THE ONLY Supreme Being. There is no Allah, or Buddah or Joe Shmoe. There is only God (Father, Son and Spirit).
The demons know who Jesus is. Just read the story of the demons that begged to be cast into the herd of pigs, in Mark 5. There were so many demons in that one man that when Jesus asked their name, they replied "Legion, for we are many." They pleaded with Jesus not to torture them but to send them into a herd of pigs. That was not the work of a human prophet, that was the work of the Lord.
Yeah, I'm preachin', but there are so many mis-interpretations and mis-informed "Christians" out there. Don't take my word for it, read God's Word. I have nothing to gain by telling the truth, but some have everything to lose by choosing not to believe.
