Quiting Dipping

Postby H20fowlkiller » Fri Feb 15, 2008 9:31 am

just curious for those who have succesfully done it, when did the headaches stop, did you use the "restroom" more frequently and did your appetite change any?

I quite for about 3 months, and for some reason started back. It seemed like the headaches never went away, and I was using the bathroom more frequently because of all the water I was drinking. I also was eating more, because I was used to throwing in a dip when ever I got hungry in the middle of the day, and that kept me from stuffing my face. I had to exercise more to help me stay mellow. It is amazing that I put myself through all of the suffering of quiting, and now I am going to have do it all over again! :x

I dipped 20+ years, had my last dip June 24, 1996. I never had headaches, I ate alot of sunflower seeds and chewed alot of gum but never gained weight or had any other adverse effects.
The main thing you have to do is make up your mind that you want to quit and just do it.
I did alot of praying and had a lot of help from God also.

Will the urge to take a dip ever go away? NOPE! I aint had a dip since then but would still like one every now and then now but just don't think it would be worth it. Food tastes better and all that stuff too.

Had to turn it over to the Lord. I couldn't do it on my own. Chewed alot of sunflower seeds, gum, and had tooth picks around all the time. I did have headaches for a while but yes did go away. Feel alot better now. No more having to keep clearing my throat. Oh yeah, and urges don't go away. Not as bad now, but every now and then still have the urge, but like they stated earlier, you just have to make up your mind that you aren't going to do it anymore. Good luck.

I quit June 5th 1996...after 18 years of Copenhagen........I gained about 25# in six months....but........i remember feeling immediately better after the first day. .I went cold turkey. I still feel like i could dip a roll sometimes hunting even now. I'll have dream every so often I took a dip again and it tasted horrible..The way i quit was i told myself if i could quit for 1 day then i could quit for 2..then 3....etc...i think it took about 7-10 days for niccotine to get out of my system.....i chewed a lot of jerky at first then sunflowers. You can absolutely do it....just quit for 1 day.

I quit a 10 year Skoal habit Christmas Eve at 9:30 P. M. I walked the Halls at night for a week, had headaches, and was a pain in the booty. It gets better. I used that ground up mint stuff to help me quit. My appetite didn't change to much as I just put that mint stuff in when I wanted a dip. Keep at it. You'll be glad you quit.

Keep it up, you have to really want to quit to be successful. I quit after 15 years of Copenhagen. The cravings ease up considerably after 2 weeks. If you can make it 2 months they are just about gone. Don't get me wrong, there are times a big ol juicy dip would be gooood, but what a waste of effort and suffering to start again after 3 plus years of quitting. Like others have said, lay it before God and He will give you the strength.

headaches went away after 6 weeks or so. Shat like bull with worms for a few eeks as well. Typical withdrawels. Got on the nicotine gum and it helped a lot. Probelm is 3 years later I am still on it. But no spilt cups or staind on my shirts. Stick with it my friend you are almost through the worst of it. But the urge will never go away it will just decrease.
