For the money, you can't beat Flambeaus.

Another vote for G&H. You can't beat those full body GHG's though. One of our pits had new standard mallard flams, weighted keel, and they are a pretty nice decoy for the price.

GHG or Final Approach are my picks. Tried some of the new econo Herter's but paint didn't hold well.

Most of mine are 20 year old Flambeaus.... only one problem -- just cant figure out how to keep the paint on them, after my dog chews on them... I do have to replace a couple of them every year when Jr. water swats a greenhead.....

I have several of the 20 year old Flambeau decoys. You just can't beat those decoys for durability.

In my opinion, a decoy should look good, but be tough enough to hunt with. Hunting decoys shouldn't have to be babied and caressed; save that for the collector's pieces.

I like a decoy that looks realistic, and that's where many fall short. If you could combine the durability of G&H or those old Flambeau, with the looks of the GHG, you'd have a gold mine.

I've been told the newest GHG have pretty much solved the paint problems. I don't have any of the newer dekes (less than 2-3 years old) so I can't attest to if the paint's fixed or not.

This past season, a friend gave me 7 dozen circa 1950's hard plastic mallard decoys that had been sitting in his farm shop for the last 40 years. I've always liked classic stuff and rigged up three dozen to hunt. I took a group out one morning. My friends gave me a hard time about my decoys...until they finished a limit in about an hour and a half. Then, one admitted feeling a little silly about his recently-purchased $110/dozen G&Hs! I used those decoys on a number of hunts and did quite well with them.

So I guess I would add another choice to the poll...free "classics"!

Have you got any pictures of what that "old spread" looks like when deployed? I'm sure there are others on here that would appreciate seeing them too.

I do not have any photos. You hunted over that rig, didn't you?

Sure did. They look good too, and I know there are a few around here who enjoy that sort of thing.

Maybe next year.

I use a mixture of Flambau, Redhead, Carry lite, and Hot buys. I think the bigger mixture of different looking dekes the better your spread looks.

Personal Preference, I like the Redhead's I just got won last year at Old Hatchie HRC Hunt Test. They look Great, but you can't beat the old Flambau's from 80's. They were the best looking before they went to that big hump back decoy they made. I like the ones with necks that you can hold and wrap the weight around too. No necks tick me off! But I have a bunch of em!
