I can give you a heckuva idea on what to do. Look a little harder at the ballot next election and give a democrat another chance. This article is just the tip of the iceberg in Bushs' plans. If you read the Clarion Ledger you probably already know that Bushs' new logging plan puts 10 National Forest on the hotlist for logging. Out of that 10, 3 are in Mississippi. Delta National Forest, which I hold very dear for hunting, is in that list of 3 for MS that could be logged out under Bushs' plan. If we keep voting in Republicans, by God we'll have guns, but nothing to hunt due to lowering of enviromental standards nationwide and destruction of forest lands owned by the Government. Please realize that your right to own guns is protected by the constitution and cannot be revoked. Also, if you make less that $100K a year how the heck can you afford to vote for Republicans?

Sorry, but that is crap. Bush's plan has to do with select cutting which promotes healthy growth and helps alleviate the threat of fires. He made this statement with the full backing of the governors of Idaho, Arizona and Montana and the western governors alliance - where the fires were when he made the statement. Bush just wants to give the Forest Service the ability to thin the lumber as needed for healthy growth. That is why it is being called the Healthy Forest Initiative. It is designed to reduce the amount of fuel in the forest. more factual info can be found at the USDA Forest Service website: http://www.fs.fed.us/projects/HFI.shtml
And as far as our elected officials, I can't believe we wouldn't support a fellow duck & deer hunter. Mississippi's own Chip Pickering (Republican) helped start the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation and his website shows his dedication to hunting -- and Chip with a really good buck http://www.house.gov/pickering/Sportsman.htm
Facts. Not emotions. Democrats. give me a break...

Another option may be to ask for volunteers to wage a jihad against farmers and loggers and anybody else that might want to actually use the land that they own. Or perhaps we just do away with the concept of private land ownership and let the government have it all. After all, they know whats best for us, and they are always looking out for our best interests.
Wake up and smell what your shovelin'! :x
That report you were refering to in the Clarion-Ledger is Sierra Club Propaganda. Nobody is going to clearcut the National Forests, for crying out loud! Neither are they going to bulldoze the pothole region! Thinking that the DNC is looking out for the interest of hunters (wild-eyed animal- mutilating right-wing redneck kooks in many of their opinions) reflects either a profound ignorance of the platforms of the modern Democratic Party or that you have allowed yourself to be brainwashed by some environmental group's propaganda.
While it is certainly true that some, if not most, Democrats from the South & Midwest do stand up for hunters' rights, their East and West Coast comrades, by an overwhelming majority, do not.
Instead of ranting that the eeeeeeeeeevil Republicans are going to rape, kill, pillage, and burn the planet and that the only solution is to vote in some aging Hippee or Hippee wannabe named Luna or Sunbeam, why don't you do something that might actually have a meaningful effect:
Call, write, e-mail, and/or telegram your Congressman & Senators! And have your friends do the same. And their friends, too. Thats how you are supposed to get things done in a Democratic Republic.
Some of you may be saying to yourself, "Yeah, right." But I'm telling you, if this is an issue you care about, and enough people let their opinions be known in Washington, we as hunters can get what we want. I think most hunters would like to see a good law that protects wild habitat without totally screwing the landowners or the farming & logging industry. Its all about balance.
OK, I've run out of steam for now. Allow me step off my soapbox.

I write a personal opinion about POLITICS, and get blasted personally from every direction. Rip Em, if I smoke dope, it must be in another dimension. If I'm shovelin' crap, you surely must have at least tasted it. When a democrat makes any statement about any gun laws, everybody jumps on the wagon about "oh crap, there gonna take my guns, and granpa's guns, and daddy's guns. (HA) But a REPUBLICAN president, who promotes big business, invaded another country to protect an oil supply (peaks his interest), gives tax cuts to only the richest of Americans, has two dope smokin', crackhead daughters, and had to be discharged from the air guard in TX after two immediate transfers in the early seventies to protect his reputation, (he was actually cought smokin pot) mentions destroying wetlands, and logging out national forest land and you blindly defend him. I voted republican all my life up until 8 years ago. I saw first hand the effects of Republican economical tactics in the eighties. Hell just from recent memory, Carter fixed Nixon's screw ups, Reagan screwed up everything Carter fixed, Bush Sr. continued it, then a dope smokin, womanizing redneck from Arkansas gets elected President. The economy recovers in 2 years, employment reaches its highest rate in 25 years, there is a budget surplus, we didn't stick our nose in nobody elses business.

i thought about launching into a discussion about Supply Side Economics, Macro Theory, and fiscal policy. I stopped because this thread surely has got to be a joke.

Just about anyone who receives a paycheck each month will be getting tax relief thanks to the Republicans. Most people who had some form of personal income were paying more in taxes under the Clinton administration than they will be paying now that these new laws have passed.

Yeah, I really miss those Carter years. Double digit inflation, hostages in Iran, and a military so impotent it couldn't do anything about it. I wish he had won re-election.
Then perhaps we could have had Mondale-Ferraro win in '84. That would have stretched the good times out a little more.
In '88 we could have had the Dukakis-Bentson ticket win. Oops, what was I thinking. It would have been the re-election of Mondale-Ferraro. I'm sure they would have put Sadaam in his place when he started getting frisky in '90 & '91.
In '92 we would finally have our savior, William Jefferson Clinton, as President. I know that if he had had democratic predecessors some of his early "mishaps" such as Ruby Ridge and Waco would never have occured, because those nuts would not have had weapons with which to fight the Feds with after 14.5 years of Democratic control. Yes, by God, those democrats would have dealt with those "gun nuts" by then.
In '96 it would again be a clean sweep for the Democrats as Clinton is re-elected. There, of course, would be very little opposition to him and his party by now. Hell, after 18 years of packing the courts with Democratic appointees we would have long ago entered a "Golden Era" of justice for all.
In 2000, Gore-Lieberman would be crowned the new kings, er, presidents. September 11 would have never occured if this history had been followed, for we would have been so impotent as a nation as to not be worthy of jealousy.
Oh the things that could have been accomplished if only the Democrats could have been in charge the last quarter century...
Land Redistribution
Gun Confiscation
Redistribution of Wealth
Reeducation Camps for us "uncooperative" types
Gay Marriages
Open Borders
Legalized Drugs, even the really high-powered stuff
NAMBLA Scouts
Euthanasia Camps
World Government
New national motto: "ARBEIT MACHT FREI"
Oh the progress we could have made just boggles the mind.
If only...

featherd, no personal attack was intended. just amazement at the misinformation.
I researched his proposal before I responded. He is not wanting to 'log out' national forest land. This is the Sierra Club's spin on it, and the other environmental groups scare tactics. Please read the forest commission's own report about it... He is doing this to save the forest, not destroy it.
I am not even sure where to start on this one. I have met Carter. Great man. very Godly. a man of principles. But hands down the worst President this country has ever had. Facts everywhere to prove this.
It takes several years for a president's policies to effect the economy and our country. Bush Jr has been reaping the rotten fruits of the Clinton years... Clinton's huge tax increases. And he almost destroyed our military.
nope. READ the facts about the tax law, don't just listen to your fellow Democrats on this one. example: the child tax credit has been raised to $1,000 per kid. (tax credit much better than a deduction. dollar for dollar offset) so... a momma with 10 kids should pay no taxes. All tax brackets have been reduced... among many other things.
Why is lowering taxes EVER a bad thing??? Never understood why Democrats are always for taking money away from the people. (guess so they can spend it themselves, what a racket. Dang thiefs)
Isn't it cool that we live in such a wonderful country that we can debate these things ??
