jackson area duck hunters/waterdog owners
first off, mr. bobby, i sure do hope all continues to go well and improve...rest assured you'll have been in my thoughts and prayers for more than this hrc thing...secondly, and i'm gonna touch on this as delicately as possible cause w/ folks this is a touchy subject...i knew it wouldn't be long before the thought of AKC/UKC came up and i've been giving some thought as to how to answer it...first and foremost, all HT, be it AKC or UKC are just another game for you and the dog to play...i got started in HRC by way of folks on this board and that's what i aim to stay...not to say i won't run or play the other games out there, cause i will (and i'm gonna play em well when i do), but more b/c the folks i wanna see week-in and week-out (and there dogs) are running HRC...max, there is a great AKC club (magnolia retriever club) here in jackson and biglou2 is an upstanding member of that club...i'm sure he would be more than glad to help ya out...i know they put on a great test, as i went and watched em this spring for a bit...this whole thing started out as a media for folks around jackson to get together and train and it just sorta evolved into what is being proposed...i think both organizations are outstanding and do a tremendous job promoting and preserving the sport i love and you will never hear me bad-mouth either org. or the folks that run in em...but as far as were i'll hang my hat, it'll be HRC, plain and simple...gator

Let me say this. There is enough room for both organization. Look around you and just observe life in general. I drive a Toyota, some prefere Ford,Chevy,Dodge and so on. I am just have more friends in HRC and therefore that is what I prefere. I have only run one ACK hunt so I am not an arthority on them. Before you jump in and try to have a duel club I would suggest you stick with one or the other. Go with the one you feel most comfortable with enjoy most and the one you get the most help from.

yes sir, that's exactly were i'm coming from...i DO think both organizations are great, but personally as far as a club, i will stay w/ HRC...especially since there's such a well respected AKC club here...i think moving HRC here would do nothing but stimulate each prospective organization...heck, who could pass up the chance of seeing goosebruce, chance, dukdawgn, etc on a weekly basis...gator

Exactly right.... you can run an hrc hunt every weekend and not drive more than 3 hours. Exactly how it should be, how I like it, and how most running hrc like it.
Saturation is achieved when they quit filling up. That won't happen anytime soon. Most hunts fill up in finished a month before, and if a club has a good date seasoned fills up that fast too. Another hunt means another weekend, and it means more people who can get involved. Too many times club try to answer the call of all who want to come, and you see the monstor 4 finished and 2 seasoned flight hunts. It burns the workers out, and stresses the clubs that sign up for it to the max. Old Hatchie did one like that year before, and haven't signed up for one like that since. West Tn did that this spring, but actually LOST money on a monstor hunt, filled to brim, because they had to pay for help, and put people up to have enough workers. Pretty sure that bunch won't sign up for another 4/2/1 monstor again for a while. In my immedate area, Southern Flight, West Tn, East Ark, Languille River, and Old Hatchie all have hunts less than an hour from my home in barlett in a given season. Everyone of the clubs mentioned (except east ar thats had some tough times, but coming back) ALWAYS fill up. No area in country is as 'saturated' with hrc clubs as right here, and these clubs run many more than average numbers of dogs (compared to national averages).
Being an hrc club means you are part of something. Being an akc club means you can hold their events. It'd be easier to be an akc club, and more profitable by far, but the fact remains, in this part of the country, akc clubs are a minority.
Nothing wrong with their hunt test program, nothing at all. It's simply not as aligned with the average person in this part of the country. The clubs that do hold akc events can't turn away dogs, so many of them are overwhelmed with entries, because chances to run are so few. Its a vicous cycle... I'd never want to start a club that holds hunt tests I have no say in rules, and how many dogs I have to run... So fewer make that akc choice, but the demand is still there, so the entires get even more outlandish. The new rules about requiring flights to split at predetermined numbers will help come game day, but would make planning a mess.
Too bad nahra is on way out, because I'd encouraged that as an option. Had a neat program, neat people and neat dogs... All that blown by egos and crooks and a few rubber duckies. travis

news
thats excellent news bobby! we'll keep 'em coming! how is ben making it these days?
absolutely not...plan on running in their test in the fall and may join the club to give me another venue to meet folks and play a game w/ my dog...i am trying to be as clear as possible when i say that i support MRC/AKC, they do great things and NO, they have done absolutely nothing to pi$$ me or anyone else i know off...that i know of at least...this is not about "support" of MRC, this is about bringing a new game to jackson...one that's alot of fun, and does great things for conservation of duck hunting in general...as i've said, jackson/jackson area already has a well respected AKC club who put on great test (i know b/c i went to watch this spring), i just want to bring another game to jackson for duck hunters/dog enthusiast in the area...there ARE room for both organizations in jackson...my friends run HRC, folks that i know, and their dogs run HRC and that's who i'd like to see week in and week out, that's all...i direct all forum readers who'd like to run and be involved w/ AKC to biglou2 or i guess you too (SKEET16) on this forum as they'd know who to get in touch w/...i don't or i'd tell ya myself...if you want to run in HRC test or be apart of HRC in general, or heck, just a good ole training group, please see my other post "jackson area duck hunters/water dog owners part 2" and get up w/ me...i hope this clears the air of any misunderstanding that i may have caused...gator
