Your not for from home then! These pics are from Magna Vista Plantation down in Issaquenna County. It cost about 15k to be a member. Club is owned by SEC electric out of Flowood. :D

Grey Ghost is right, they are from Magna Vista, My Grandfather was the original manager of the property when it was owned by Crown Zellerbach timber company. I have grown up all over this property. It now has been sold several times to different landowners. Currently three different landowners own the property now. Magna Vista has about 7500 acres of the original 16k + acres.

My family still lives on the place. Its crazy to see deer of this magnitude grown here in Mississippi.

Pretty amazing.

Here are a few pics taken in my dads front yard.

I assume the entire property is inside the levee... I seem to recall some property on the other side of the levee near there with "Crown Vantage" signs years ago. Was it part of the same tract? I know of some folks from Clinton that hunted there (and may still).

You know, I really wish you all could have seen it when it was Crown Zellerbach. It was truely the neatest places I had ever seen. I guess im biased though.

It started as Crown Zellerbach then sold to James River (who ran an awesome business) then Crown Vantage (Downhill, sold timberland) then Timbec who really had not a chance in the world of surviving.

I always said as a kid I wanted to follow in my grandfathers footsteps and manage the property myself. It sold however shattering my dreams with the sale.

Now the only chance I have is to purchase the property myself and I don't see ole Ed McMahan showing up at my door anytime soon.

Seriously, It is now my goal to purchase it. I may never reach my goal but it will not be because I didnt' try.

But to answer one of the questions asked, there is both land on the inside and outside of the levee. Totals over 16k acres total.

And by the way, I dont even get to hunt the place. I have our property I can hunt but I live just far enough that I cant just run over there whenever I want. My little brother killed a semi nice one over there this past year and a really good one several years ago.

Is this the same place that Billy Van Devender owns. I hunt with Ronnie and Jackie Kerr, and Jackie used to guide for Crown. She said that place was first class all the way. Does Mr. Van Devender own half of the original property now. My family land is just across Steele Bayou next to the Derr Plantation. We have been on a management program for 15 years, but we rarely see many deer like in your pics. We usually kill 1 or 2 in the 135-150 class each year. Somebody mentioned you could get in a club on the Crown property for 15K. I thought all of those clubs are in the 250K-300K range. Anyway, those are some really good pics, and I am proud to see deer of that caliber in Issaquena county.

Billy bought the entire place form Crown Vantage. I think thats who sold it, I dont think it was Timbec. Anyway Billy sold off a portion of the place to the camp that Jackie and Ronnie used to be members of. He then sold off about another 7500 acres to Ken, one of the two owners of SEC Electric. He has now openned up about 2200 acres for membership and they are currently offering memberships for 15k each. As far as I know that doesn't include lodging.

Ken told me he wanted to buy the entire place but Billy wouldnt sell it to him. I feel Ken will eventually end up with it all and in my opinion, that would be a good thing.

I can tell you story upon story of this place. All I can say is when im there I feel that Im in a different world and I hate having to come back to Grenada.

You are pretty close to it and I can remember as a kid the rumors of some monsters on Derr. I can say from experience that I, with my own eyes saw a huge deer on them. It wouldn't do for me to be a Billionaire I would own all of that place plus derr and alot of the surrounding area.

I have pictures of my grandfather with a deer he killed that was a great deer. I think it had on the picture 22" inside spread and he just discarded the antlers. Cant tell you the bucks my family has taken off the area and we have nothing to show for them as they weren't that important to them.

Here is a couple more pics from my dads front yard.

Ronnie just got back into the club this year. He said they killed some pretty good deer this year. I have not heard much about the Derr plantation lately. We used to keep up with Jim Hay, who manages the place. We always tried to do the same type of management program as they did since we basically hunted the same deer. I feel the deer hunting is really good in the area but I cant figure out what happened to the turkey hunting. We used to always see turkeys in our fields and in the Derr fields. I have not seen a gobbler in the Derr field that is next to us in several years. Maybe all of the flooding has finally caught up with them. As far as feeling like you are in another world when you hunt there, I know exactly what you mean. I also hunt with my Dad at our club on the river at Greenville. The club killed 65 bucks with an average of 147". You know you almost always see multiple 135-150" bucks everytime you go out. That type of place will spoil you when you hunt other places. I am like you. I live to far from the river club to be able to hunt there as much as I like. Tell your Dad just how fortunate he is to have a front yard with bucks like that in it on a regular basis. I dont get to see that in my Jackson neighborhood. Nice talking to you about some special places.

Never heard of Dairy Pellets. What's in them, where do you get them, and how much does it cost.

15K annually is correct. This does not however include lodging. That is extra.

Dairy Pellets are nothing more than a 16% protien pellet. Also known as a Mare and foal feed. Roughly twice the cost of corn if not more. If you decide to use them you may want to sneak about 25% into your corn and then gradually phase the corn out of the picture feeding nothing but protien pellets.

As you already may know, deer require a minimum of about 14% protien and corn is roughly around 7%. As we all know all nutrients left over is then put up into antler developement. Many factors to consider here.

One thing to consider is price, gets real expensive real quick.

Hope this helps
