little guys 1st deer and 1st time 2 shoot

Postby Hayes » Wed Jan 30, 2008 7:59 pm

little guy is 6 years old I work with his mother and he has been wanting to go hunting and hopefully kill a deer. I was planning on him shooting a doe. A doe came out and right behind her came this buck. At my club we have a rule of 15 in wide outside or bigger or its a $200 fine. I had been watching this deer for several afternoons and I thought it was a little small. Well when this deer came out he was begging me to let him shoot, and he was so excited, I never told him about having to pay for it if it was too small. Well there was no way I could tell the little guy no and I would of paid any amount to let him enjoy that day and excitement he had. So I said can you hit it, HE did. and it ran about 70 yds. Ended measuring right at 15 in. It was such a blessing to take the little guy and help him get his first deer. I would not trade it for the world cant wait to take my own kids some day if the lord is willing.

That is just awesome! I have taken a few kids on their first duck and turkey hunts, but never deer. I bet that kid is on cloud nine. Great move Hayes, and thanks for sharing it with us.

glad you did not have to pay, but I am sure it would have been money well spent. Congrats to you and the shooter
There will be a day....

We put in a rule at our camp that allows a kid to shoot a state legal deer for their first deer after that they hunt like us.
