Black Duck???

i killed one in 1989 and haven't seen many until this year. I saw a few this year but never got a shot.

I totally agree with duramax. I am from NC and used to kill several blacks each year. Now we get no ducks here instead of just a few. The first time i hunted in miss we got one the first and last day of a five day hunt. I have the one I killed the last day on the wall. It was the biggest and most full blooded black I have ever seen. Even in nc. I have it a drake mottled and a drake sprig(both from sw louisiana) all on the same piece of driftwood. Side by side you can really tell the difference. Most of the ones I see on here that are called mottles I think are really blacks. Mottleds are very very rare away from the coast because they don't typically migrate. They also stay paired all year and don't normally fly in flocks just in pairs.

I did see a few in the central delta in mid Dec. this year but never got a shot at one
