Hunting near railroad tracks...

Postby SNOT » Fri Jan 25, 2008 8:25 pm

Any of yall ever hunted close to a train track? I started hunting a new spot on our land and have my climber about 30 yards from the tracks. Those trains come flying by. It's a place nobody has hunted and I'm getting desperate. Had some does walking the tracks this morning, but didn't see any horns....

After learning this from personal experience, keep in mind that a railroad is considered a road. There fore can't hunt too close to it, on it, etc....

I used to hunt one in college, the engineer saw me one day, called the GW and I got a ticket for it. It was a GREAT place to hunt however.

yea just watch on how close you are to it both for legal and safety reasons,Safety reasons I mean this by getting too close stuff is always flying up off the tracks and ground surrounding the train. Also getting too close you may have an outlaw that is also hunting them and when they shoot up the tracks in your direction they may miss you and may get hurt.

If you are hunting in Bolton, I am probably right down or up the tracks from you. Our lease in Bolton is split by the railroad tracks. The deer don't seem to mind the trains coming through at all, but you do have to be carfeful hunting near or around the tracks.

I got a lease in N.MO. that has a RR running thru it...its an awesome funnel!!! There is about 75 yards of ground between the RR and the River running thru us ....great bucks some thru it all the time ....I've seen a lot of the deer bed down within 10 yards of the tracks and lay there while the train goes by....they pay it no attention....I love that spot!

Snot - it has been slow for me, but two nice eight-points were killed earlier in the year by two guys that hunt with me. I have only been hunting in Bolton for a few years, but it is a good area to hunt with lots of potential. We pay a decent amount for the lease, but I think in another year or so a certain club in the area will eventually out-bid us and we will have to look elsewhere.
