Whatcha know about the Taurus 1911? Good lookin (I mean it's a 1911 for goodness sake) and cheap.

a guy I work with has one and let me take it for a weekend to shoot it. It is a great shooting handgun and for the "add ons" you get with it, it seems to be a great deal.

Hate to hear you had your stuff stolen. I ahve to haul my stuff in and out every night here
There will be a day....

I have heard that it is a great gun for the price. Taurus seems to put out really good qaulity stuff for a valued price. That gun is supposed to have about 2 grand worth of stuff done to it, I have handled them but not shot one. I shot an H&K 45 usp a couple of weeks ago and loved it but it sells for 900 dollars and that is a lot of money for me. Now I am looking at an Springfield XD 45 or springfield 1911, or Para Ordance. I can order the Paras for a really good price. I also like the Magnum Research Baby Eagle 45 but have not shot one.

You I wake up everyday and go to work so that I can buy what little bit of stuff I can afford to buy and them someone just comes along and takes it, it just really pisses me off. Yeah I keep a 12 guage by my bed and am about to purchase a 45 have been shoping around trying to decide what I want and waiting for income taxes but I guess I will go ahead and purchase it now.
right on, a 45 will do the job just as well as anything else

Get a CCW permit, a good holster and start practicing. It takes 127 dollars and 120 days to wait. Use that waiting time to holster shop. About "hidden guns", I would dare to say having a bunch of guns through out the house would be a great way to arm an otherwise unarmed intruder (or give a guy with a knife a loaded 12 gauge) Get a good pistol to get you to 1 designated long gun, preferably a shotgun for home defense and lock the rest up. You don't want to over penetrate (hence need for shotgun) and kill a sleeping neighbor or heaven forbid a family member. The way I see my handguns is they are a means to get to my shotgun or rifle depending on the situation.

These of course are just my opinion on things. Do what you feel necessary to ensure the safety of you and your loved ones.

As for a pistol, look at glocks, springfield xd, or a good wheel gun. Get something that will go bang everytime and learn to use it.
