Headed to the Lump

Postby Deltamud77 » Thu Jan 17, 2008 2:50 pm

in February and am very excited. I have never saltwater fished in cold weather. Therefore, Jeff, Mudhog, Mudsucker, Hood...what is the appropriate gear to wear? Rubber boots, slicker suit, rain suit, what? I don't want to get out there and be miserable because I am cold and wet, but also don't want to be looking like a topwater out there either.

I don't have a slicker suit, however, I do have a fairly nice camo rain suit. I also have some old lacrosse boats that dry rotted at the ankle, so I cut them off. Is this appropriate? Smart booty remarks are welcome, but I need some substance to it as well. :)

Thanks.

honestly it doesnt matter the weather can change so fast out there as long as ur dry to some degree and warm thats what matters, ive seen people in waders out there, but yes slicker suit and some good waterproof boots, probably not ur lacrosses cuz if there like the guy with the waders there not the best footing for wet fiberglass boats in the waves

I figured the lacrosse boats are a bad idea...just mentioned them. Maybe I need some white boats like Jeff.

I actually forgot when I was posting initially that I have an old pair of Sperry boats that are designed for boat decks and are water proof. I have had them for probably close to 15 years.

The Lump can change in minutes out there. You think that you can get away from the weather when you are only 20 miles out. It can get rough in a blink of an eye...it can slick out too. Hope that is what you have. You are going in the prime time.

ps: I like my Tuna raw or in steaks!! :D

about the only thing you can bank that will be there will be the fog. I would just pack a rain suit or bibs at the least. All depends what you can take. Personally, I can handle my waist up be wet, but I can't stand waist down. Are you going on a charter? If not, then you will need something to keep your waist down dry while pulling in the fish. Temps will be tough to plan for, just watch the weather and plan the night before.

I'm hoping to get a trip out there as well, but we would leave out of Grand Isle and bypass the river traffic.

Haven't heard to many reports and not seeing to much on rodnreel. Hope things start picking up.

Oh, and I perfer my tuna raw and only raw. :D :D

Sperry boots will work great. I have some from my sailing days! Pack a duffle with slicker, extra sweater/hoodie,gloves, etc. I would rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it! They could call me topwater all they want, when the sheit hits the fan(wed. night we recorded winds to 48kts. while raining!)I'd be ready!

I was watching one of the off-shore fishing shows one Sunday morning and they showed a pair of shoes that I said I wanted, but can't think of the name. It looked like a regular pair of tennis shoes and they looked very comfortable. Had like a mesh look on the outside. They were waterproof or able to handle water as they wore them the whole time.

Well found out the show: Offshore Adventures on the Outdoor channel. Now it's to find out about them shoes.

I bet it was some sort of Sperry...go to their website, they have many other shoes aside from the Ole Miss frat deck shoe. I went to the site yesterday to see if they still make the boat I have. They don't.

I think it's similar to this one: http://www.sperrytopsider.com/shopping/ ... sColor=376

I sent them an email asking for info. on the shoes they advertised for during their show either 2 weeks or 3 weeks ago. Will see what they reply with or if they reply.

well good news.

Chris emailed me back and Sperry Top-Siders are the shoes that they wear. You hit the nail on the head Delta.

"Lane,

Thank you for your email and for watching the show. The shoes that you have seen us where are Sperry Top-Siders. I would check out their website which will give you info on shoes available and where to purchase.
