Cold Temps to take precaution

Postby muddinram2duck » Thu Jan 03, 2008 8:23 pm

This will be the second night in a row that my pups will be brought inside the house to sleep in a crate. I have always used the magic number of 25 deg F to determine if they need to be brought in to house, garage, laundry room. What is the consensus out there? Mine are Labs by the way..

Better keep them out of the water on a dry stand as well. In these temps the dogs need to get the duck, and get back on a dry something asap. Do not let your dog stand in cold water. Do not let your dog go on extended hunts in cold swimming water.

Mud........my dogs are always inside, that's why Roc is such a "BEARDED CLAM" in cold weather.......

da juice comes in any night its close to cold. Heck I even picked him up off the 4 wheeler and sat him down in da pit box the other day to keep him dry till its time. Rowdydogg is in house every day and night, no matter what or when. Its got to get booty numbing cold to bring the heatherns in though, like the last 2 nights. As long as their dog houses can get out of the wind, and its dry, I think dogs are warmer than you think. But a windy or wet night, I'll put them on the truck or in the dog food room in crates, no reason to make a dog even close to miserable. travis

Seems like mine find a way to be comfortable wherever they please. Image

All of mine come in at night, no matter what the conditions are... They all have their own crates and go into them on their own when we get ready for bed at night. I think if the wife and they had their way though, they'd all sleep with us... I only let the oldest male and female sleep on the foot of the bed. If I didn't they'd sit beside the bed all night long nudging me with their noses and huffing and puffing till I did let them sleep on the bed. I lost that battle. Thank heavens the others never caught on to it...

Seriously though; When it get's that cold, you definately need to protect your friend and make them as comfortable as possible :!:

You guys only think its cold, down there, our temps arent that much colder, but we consistently have highs below freezing, we hunt our dogs many times all day long in these temps, we always feedem good during the hunt, and dry them and letem get in the back seat of the truck. Just gotta keep a close eye on them and make sure they eat! and stay warm.

Some of you guys are too hard on your dogs. The only time Belle doesn't sleep inside is when we're at duck camp or when she's at CC's place:-)

Mine stay in, well a bunch. My male loves this below freezing stuff. Took him out the other evening and instead of sitting on dry ground he elected to sit in the ice. Not sure why?
