I have not shot a hen since yesterday, so I can safely say "No hens this year." So far.

Three years ago 72broncojp and I agreed to only shoot drakes that year. We hunted fairly hard and on the last day, the last shot fired, I downed a hen. It was overcast and the drake she came in with just silhouetted (sp.)against the sky. Of course he got the drake and I heard about it for months.

Do any of you have one of those friends that always shoots right after you and then claims the bird? The same guy always acts like he never shoots hens but is really the only one that does in the group. I'm not naming any names! Are you reading this thread caller1(Not that your the one I'm referring to or anything)? I think there are several guys on here that can back me up on this one.

I shoot whatever comes in. It don't matter if its a hen or a drake or a smiley. Don't matter to me as long as its cupped up with the landing gear down.

In my old age I've mellowed and I try to go light on the hens....but when I was younger that wasn't necessarily the case.

Only double banded duck I ever killed was a hen with $100 reward....I used that reward money to pay for the mount of the drake she flew in with...and he's the one wearing the jewelry now. (Feminists everywhere, eat your hearts out!)

Honestly it is hard for me to tell the difference. I must be Green/Brown colored blind.. But I would avoid it if I could see the difference..

I've shot one hen in recent memory... it was banded. Also, hen pintails often seem to be banded. :D

MudBuddy, I have no idea what you are talking about.

Beatmaster, shoot till it hits the water.

Did I ever tell you guys about my Jack Miner band?
