10 THE FIRST 2 WEEKS OF THE SEASON. 3 THE PAST 2 WEEKS OF THE SEASON..... BUT HELL WHO CARES I AM HAVING A BLAST. I STILL THINK IT IS ALL WHAT YOU PUT IN IS WHAT YOU GONNA GET OUT. TIME, MONEY, SCOUTING, WALKING WHERE OTHERS WONT VENTURE TO GO.... I THINK I MAY BE STARTING TO GET INTO THE STAGE OF JUST ENJOYING BEING OUT THERE AND NOT HAVING TO KILL EVERYTHING THAT FLIES BY. NOT TOTALLY THERE YET BUT GETTING INTO THAT MODE. THOUGHT I WOULD NEVER GET THERE BUT I AM CLOSE. ALL IN ALL HAVE HAD A GREAT YEAR. NOT MEASURED BY BIRDS BUT BY THE OVERALL EXPERIENCE.... JUST MY 2 PENNIES

lets see......

1. i have not got a limit yet this year...... several mornings where two of us could not catch one.

2. went on a two day hunt in ark where we killed a total of 9 ducks i think..... majority of them shovers....

3. broke about everything there is to break.

4. dog came into heat first morning during ark trip.

5. got dog fixed.

6. while doing blood work for gettin fixed doc discovered a positive test of heart worms while on heart worm prevention....

7. now my dog is currently takin the series of shots for heart worms.... (in case you dont know its gonna set me back about four or five large)

8. dropped a $60 browning flashlight in the water on its first hunt....

9. flipped the wheeler over on top on me in the mudd just today.....

i think it would just be alot more fun for me personally if someone else would rate my season for me, i can't count that low.
all together its been a great year.

on the bright side, i still have my health. 8)

in case you dont know me or have never been around me..... see below attached signature to explain in short my life in general.

3, only because I have gotten two triples this season. It would be a -2 otherwise.

Hard to say. The hunts I've been on have all been pretty good, but they have been at nice places or played the weather just right. Picked up 14 teal one morning after the hole had been shot up pretty hard the morning before. Just blind luck that the teal were there. So I'd give it a 8 from this stand point.

Many of the usual places I hunt have been dry or without birds. I think the bird #'s are crap. I'd give it a 2 from this stand point.

Average is average or a 5

I don't forsee the duck numbers improving any time soon. Definately not this year. The few ducks we have are about to be scattered as more fields are holding water. They will be call and decoy shy earlier than usual. Basically I'm not real enthused.

I was talking to a buddy yesterday, He said he had not been duck hunting because he had not seen any ducks using his land. I mentioned that to harvest a duck he had to be out there.

The difference I've seen in a bad hunt on working and harvesting birds and a great hunt is about 6 dozen dekes and atleast 4 hours in the blind!
Don't even go unless you have 8 dozen dekes out!! Up here anyway.

3 - Been three times but a very small number of ducks were killed. Ducks are not around where I'm hunting plain and simple.
If it doesn't work out there will never be any doubt that the pleasure was worth all the pain.

I will give it a 10. I have had some great hunts with several limits being shot with great friends and to cap it off my son shot his first bird on the fly a drake pintail. So if the rest of the season is as good as the first then the number will be off the charts. :D

hunts

Postby jdbuckshot » Tue Jan 01, 2008 11:17 am

i would rate it as a 7, on the last seven hunts i have been on, each person has limited out! 5 times there were 2 of us, and 2 times there were three of us. thats 55 mallards! and 5 canadas to boot! fun times!

for you naysayers, the limit is 5 mallards in kansas!

oh, i also killed a band!
