First Hunt

Postby dukhunter » Sat Dec 22, 2007 1:36 pm

We sat in the dark waitin on first light.
Me, my boy and them black birds that bite.
Not expecting alot just maybe his first kill.
I'm hopein he gets a shot at the thrill that squeals.
Were in a cypress break bout knee deep,
hes sittin on a deer stand I've tied to a tree.
(He wont be still I swear hes just like me)
I hear em before I see em,
like jet fighters over head.
I wonder how many shells he'll shoot,
and bout all the money I'm gonna spend.
Ya know when he kills one that suckers going on the wall,
but just by the look on his face hes having a ball.
Were legal now, but the suns runnin late.
There hittin the water all over the place,
dartin through trees and cuttin the air.
If I wanted to shoot it wouldn't even be fair.
Camera in one hand and gun in the other,
I'm waitin on my boy to bring on the thunder.
He throws his gun to his shoulder as I look through the lens.
One shot rings out, Two drakes and.... and.... two drakes and a hen?
Just one shot rang out?
NAAAWWW!!!!! that couldn't be.
I checked the tape,
I had to see.
There it is in full color-Hi def,
five came in and only two of em left.
No cripples on the water,
no need for a second shot,
that boy pulled a bead and droped em dead on the spot.
I konw it was luck,
both good and bad,
I should say somthing ya know,
I am his dad.
But what do you say when your boy just kicked some duck booty?
It wasn't his fault that hen got in his path.
WELL? One things for sure,
he has a memory for the ages,
and a story to tell that will take more than a few pages.
I told him, lets pack it up and go,
I never fired my gun,
Theres one thing for sure though
I've got a duck huntin SON!
