Baylee is much stronger today, vitals look good, and antibotics are working staving off the infection. Doctors started to talk to heather and troy about the hart valves... they want to do surgury. Unclear at this point if it will be an open her up procdure, or microscopic. Bad in they need to do that, good in shes strong enough they are considering it again. Their reasoning is her organs are growing, and they are afraid the hart valves might cause a problem if the hart cant keep up with the growth. Troy asked me to post another update, again hes very touched by everyones concearns. travis

Baylee is schedualed for surgery (on the hart vavles) in the morning. They are moving her downtown to lebonner in the next few hours. Not sure if ambulance or helicopter, but the procdure isnt expected to be as big as deal as the transport. Doctors have still not found an infection, and think it was the stress more than infection with the other line. The hart valve procdure is a 10-15 minute deal, they go in with a scope and fix the part that isnt closing. Its not an emergency procdure, rather they think it can not be put off till after christmas, because ever day without it is a day she can not really improve, but may regress. Shes 1lb 10.5 oz now, down some from her birth weight of 1lb 12. Not unusual for the weight to tetter back and forth, they weigh these babies in grams and you can see the differences in 2 hours if the baby has been fuzzy or stressed or not. The doctors have specfially said do not think once this surgery is done that she is 'fixxed' or 'all better' rather think that hart must function better to help the lungs function better to keep pace with the organ growth that must occur. Its an incredible balancing act with premies, and all the technology, skill, and love the medical staff gives, is still tempered with a lot of lets take care of this and see what happens. There isnt a playbook to making everything ok, rather dealing with issues in a trieoge fashion, from severe to less severe.
They have found 2 brain bleeds in baylee. Brain bleeds are almost a 100% certainly in very small premies on the respriators and blood vessles not developed. In fact, brain bleeds are the one thing EVERYONE promised us we would have with tj (and he never did), but it never came to pass, so I honestly knew very little about them. It was presented to us at ALL premies have brain bleeds, and it was a constant fear and issue, but forunatley we never got too much experience or knowledge about them. They have levels on the brain bleeds, because the technology is so good to pick them up, they pick them up at a very minute level. Baylees are scored level 1 on one side, which is of pratacially no consequence , and level 2 on the other, which will be monitored and could develop into something, but doesnt appear to be now or yet. Besides the obvious severe brain bleed that could kill a premie (think anyersum) or require serious serious surgery, they can also led to pressure on the differnt parts of the brain. Some of these parts affect development, the senses, or even future mental capacity. So any brain bleed is of consequence, and any severe one is potientally life threatening or debilitating. The more her blood gases, and sat levels and hart rates flucuate, the more likely of more problems developing there are. The faster her hart, and therefore her blood and lungs can be stablized, the less likely a problem worsens there. I might not be 100% sure of the sciene or cause and effect on that, but I do remember the o2 levels & pressures had a direct effect on them, because so many premies that dont have serious brain bleeds do have problems with their eyes (the blood vessles behind them). All premies that spent a long time on the respriators have scarring in those blood vessles, and some loss of sight (espeically pheriphal vison). TJ had a lazer eye surgery before he went home to correct his, and the doctor that performed the surgery happened to be the one that invented it, and I remember him saying it was the best results he had ever had, and had ever dreamed of on tj's, and that he lost no sight and had the potiental (genetics withstanding of coruse) of having perfect vison (fight pilot perfect vison).
I cant go to surgery with them tommorrow, I must work Im the only one there tommorrow. But wife is going to try to go and will keep me posted, and Ill post here. They dont have a time, they are going to get there tonight, and they will simply do it when they can, or when she can, or a combonation of both. travis

Baylee had her hart valve surgery this morning. The procdure was in and out, no big deal, and they expect good results from it. She had a lung collasp, a hemothroax? basically an air leak air on the outside. a chest tube to get the wrong air out (22 ccs of air is a lot when your diaper is the size of a matchbook), and reinflate the lung. Apprently the espogas got punctured by the feeding tube. Hoping for it heal on its own. They will be at lebhonner till monday, and the docotrs are hoping to be able to place a centeral line in before she goes back to germantown to do away with the pic lines and blood vessle issues. The roller coaster goes on, the prayers keep them going. Troy is almost to collaspe state, tired from the drama and the hours they are keeping. They are in a room with her at lebonhoner, which I hope will allow for better rest for everyone. travis
Keep strong guys, "persaverance"

Prayers
Troy,
I have been away a while, but be assured that you, your wife, and Baylee have been in our thoughts and prayers.
We are praying for all of you,
Bill

I went to the hospital today and saw Troy, Heather, and Baylee. They were having a good day and Baylee is almost up to 2lbs. Troy and Heather were able to get some rest last night and probably will tonight as well.
Baylee has responded well to all the procedures performed and the best news is that the docs say she is probably not sick enough to stay in the neonatal unit at Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center. Troy thinks that they will go back to Germantown on Thursday. Now, while Le Bonheur is a much good place for her, the fact that she is well enough to go back to Germantown is great news.
I was able to go and see Baylee and she looks mighty pretty to me. Of course, mom and dad agreed with my observation.
