What?
It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

Have you read the warranty on the Leopold? I'm no lawyer, but it's worded such that under the right circumstances the warranty is good forever. (Lifetime, completely transferrable, even if you change guns.)
Nobody owes you anything.

Good rifles. esp with good glass. For 3k you could get a nice custom rifle. .308, 270 WSM are two good rounds to look at.

Depends on what your going to be using it for. Hunting, target practice, Deer, Elk, Moose... I don't know that I would want to drag a 3k gun up a tree to hunt deer with.. If I had that money I may but 3 guns at about 1k apiece. I would go with a 22-250, 7mm08 and maybe a 300 WSM.

I've got a Ruger M77 Mark II 30-06 with a Leopold vxIII 3.5x10x50. I absolutly love the scope, but I have a few complaints about the rifle. I've got the old synthetic stock that has a very narrow butt and I shoot federal premiums so it kicks like a mule. I've shot the same ammo in a Remington 700 and Winchester 70 and neither seemed to kick as bad. I'm not fond of the rifles action either, it's not very smooth in my opinion. There may be some other guys who have more favorable opinions than me though.

Sako, 300 WSM (partial to the caliber cause I like short actions, and it will do fine for any non-predator game in North America, and quite a few in Africa)...put a Zeiss 2.5-10x42mm Diavari on top and you'll be at the top of the price range but you'll have a nice setup....

If you wanted to save a bit of cash, the VXIII is a tough scope and does a great job for a lot less, and an A-Bolt is a fine rifle as well as are the Steyrs....

Browning A bolt 7 MAG and A Bolt micro .243. Nothing fancy but verry accurate. Swift scopes.

I like the swift....leopald has priced themselves out of a "hunters" price range.....the swift has the same warranty....for the money, I'd drive to Gulfport and buy the hole deal from Dad's Super Pawn...they will match anyones prices and give you a lifetime warranty thru them on anything you buy with the exception of a used .22....can't go wrong....and that ain't advertising...that's the truth...

I will have to agree on a sako in .308, 270, or 30-06. Three of the best, most common calibers and the sako is the closest thing to custom. As for the scope go with a Burris black or euro diamond. Lifetime warranty made in the U.S.A. and will out perform any leupold, zeiss, swift, etc. The prices are also very reasonable.
