Mind over matter. Make your mind up that you're going to do it and tell everyone that you've made up your mind. Tell yourself that you're weak and a "housecat" if you submit. Mind over matter. As others have mentioned, the habit of doing something instead of sitting still, having something in your mouth, etc. is harder to break than the chemical addiction. Keep tic tacs, toothpicks, straws, gum, peppermints, etc. handy. Ice water and coffee work well also. I'm bad about guzzling coffee all morning at work, then ice water and chomping the ice. Try to replace your "bored and I just want to sit here and chill with a cigarette feeling with something else. It's hard for the first month or so, after that it gets easier. I can't stand being around them anymore. The main thing is self discipline. PERIOD.

agreed Dan, it was harder for me to learn not to get up from lunch or dinner and go smoke

it was habit...I did not crave the cig or nicotine it was ritual, so unlearn bad behavior or replace it
