Hunt Trials!

OK, David. Here it is. Saturday and Sunday. 3.5 miles east of Hernando on Holly Springs Road. There will be signs and a large gravel road to left. Hunt test site is at the end of this road. We start at 8:00 AM on both days. It will be a big hunt with both flights of finished full and the seasoned division near full. Come see some of the best dogs in HRC run.

What are you talking about "getting wet" Heck I will help out however I can and be sure to have some membership applications available Saturday as I plan on joining up then since I can't seem to get to one of the monthly meetings.

David---bring your own chair. Will be a guy there cooking hamburgers for lunch. Most folks bring their own refereshments and get a hamburger to munch during lunch. Dogs run all day except during the swap from land to water series.

The fellar that recently bought my HR-dawg "D" came down from Kentucky to get his feet wet at the test seen. He AND HIS WIFE are now hooked on the gig! They've already joined a local HRC club and HRC as a whole. He even let us talk him into fighting his nerves to run a started test while he had a nice big crowd of on-lookers watching....

The dog passed with flying colors, of course, but the handler dang near pasted out with anxiety and nerves... heheheh

Missy is my rebel pup and Dutch is my chocolate that I've had for almost 4 years now. Dutch is a quick learner and has all the desire in the world...I just needed someone with a little more know-how to channel that desire and do something constructive with it.

Hey guys,
I am planning on coming to watch on Saturday, have never been to one before and am curious.. I was wondering about bringing my pup, he is 4 months old and well that is about all you need to say.. a 4 month old lab pup.. he is showing some good potential, anyway I doubt I would try to have him run even a started test at this point, but did not want to have him make trouble, I would have him on a leash and all.. just since I've never been before don't want to mess up anyones day and I really don't need to bring him, this is more of an information gathering trip.. thanks

Wrong bd... bring the pup, with a leash, and a tight collar so he doesnt slip out of.... You'll be excited, but your dog will go nuts. That afternoon, our friend Johnny Barlow will be doing the puppy stakes just for someone in your postion, or for someone with a kid that wants to run a dog... So you get a chance to have a little fun with pup too. Check out started first obviously, but don't be afriad to go see the other stakes, seasoned and the big dogs in finished. Bring your kids as well, hrc tests are family activites. I would caution, if you bring the kids, please mind where they are playing, because they have a way of being outta the way then BAM, in a test... Not that mine have ever done that.... White shirts can keep you away from the action, so drab colors or camo is preferrred.
After the started tests, get with the started judge in the overalls, Johnny, and he'll be sure you can borrow a duck to make sure you're dog will pick one up and such.
They'll be a sat night gig with some eats, a raffle and ribbon cermonys. With the costs of everything it takes to put a hunt on, most clubs break even on the hunt.. the raffle and lunches are the only way they make any money on the hunts (and that money goes back into the club to make it stronger). If you had a good time at a hunt (not ness just ours) show the host club your appriaction with particpating in their raffle.
BD (and anyone else) if you got questions... ask. You'll never meet a better bunch of folks than at an hrc test. Never. I've run em in 10 different states and canada, and no matter where we are at, I see friends and make new ones. You won't regret the day spent on a 'learning' mission as you call it. travis

BrownDog, Ole Goose is right on. It's a fun event, a good way to meet a bunch of good folks & you'd be surprised at how helpful they are. Even if you're not running a dog it's great to see what they are capable of. I went to the Southern Flight spring hunt last year ( my first hunt test ) with
a friend and knew afterwards that I had to have a dog like those. Well, we're on our way... have completed started & am now working toward the seasoned class. Have made some good friends & have learned a lot in the past year!!! Lookin forward to getting better, and those ribbons are nice, too

I stumbled across a web site dedicated to the info for the hunt tests. It had all of the info about the test that ran at Macks Prarie Wing several weeks ago. I lost the site and can't find it again ! Do any of you guys know where that site is? Thanks!

I'm here between runs for Dutch. He easily passed his morning run. Worked EXCELLENT on his blind, and even re-entered the water after coming out onto the bank on it and swam back vs. running the bank. Not counting the honoring segment of the finished tests in the water and the diversion bird on land he could pass those as well. He's on his way. Headed back this afternoon to get some video of him as well as some of the finished scenario.
