Choke Tubes for Ducks

Postby injun_23 » Sun Mar 30, 2003 10:33 am

I know this has been hashed over before but I figure the people on here this time of year are the die-hards. What Brands of choke tubes have given the best results with steel and what brands should be avoided? Extended or flush? Any websites that have great deals? Thanks! INJ

The two duck chokes I've had any experience with are Tru-Glo and Northwind. Both are extended chokes and I'm now going to the extended chokes on all of my guns because I can never keep a choke wrench where it's supposed to be. I got the tru-glo choke for my beretta and have been very satisfied with it. I bought the Northwind choke for my 870 at walmart and was very suprised by how far I could kill a duck shooting BB's and BBB's.

I personally like Pattern Plus chokes that screw in flush. These chokes can be used for steel, lead, or heavy shot.

I use Trulock chokes. George Trulock is a great guy and has a lifetime warranty. If the choke won't pattern he'll refund your money or swap chokes. They are cheaper than Briley's but just as well made.

Take care!!

The "gold standards" are Briley and Angle Port/Ballistric Specialties. Carlson and Trulock also make decent, less expensive choke tubes. Most people have found extended tubes to give slightly better patterns than flush chokes. Flush mount chokes are a pain to deal with when hunting.

Hey GC or DD,
With shot cups now covering the entire column of shot, is there any need for a specialized steel shot choke?
Or is this just a way to clip us for an extra few bucks :?:

The after market chokes do pattern better.

But what I've been told about your non shooting skills it really doesn't matter. Boss Hawg said he had to shoot all your birds for you!

Now Rip Em,
Do'nt you go lyin to DD.

DD,
Every time were in a duck hole, Rip Em asks if he can have a few of my ducks, so everyone won't laugh  @ him back @ the camp. I simply nod and reply, sure man I won't tell. I don't hold his non-shootin skills againist him, mainly because of his education @ msu.

Hawg is right D.D., Every now & then I need a Merganzer or Coot to finish out my bag.
He usually has plenty of em !!!!!
He is also the reigning GROUND SWAT champ!!! He claims ducks are much easier to kill on the water!
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!!!!!!!!!

Unless you are shooting BB's or larger, they are clipping you.

O.K. GC, Why would the size of the shot matter?Do larger shot tend to rub through the shot cup?
I'm probably overlooking the obvious!
Thank you!!!

He told me he never shot a duck sitting on the water, he waits til the duck is swimming!

By the way, can you remember that long ago when you shot a limit of ducks?
