Postby torch » Thu Nov 29, 2007 5:48 am

They are letting water out of Grenada and it was already below "winter pool". Th Yalabousha was rolling the other day.

The Yalobusha was probably rolling because of the rain we got. But you are right..... I was hopeful that the rain we got in Sept. and Oct. would stay in the lake and there might actually be some hunting on the lake... Well, I guess we shouldn't expect much from them......After all the lake isn't for recreation, it's for flood control. (Although they sure don't mind spending the money they get from locals paying launch fees and tax dollars.) I believe they have some sort of hidden agenda that we don't know about. The lake is crazy low and has been all year. It's pitiful.

It is my understanding that most of the Corp lakes are getting ready for dredging. The silt has built up almost 20 ft in Arkabutla, that is why the gates are open. Hopefully they will be able to start next spring.

That doesn't make sence for Grenada. It's low enough EVERY winter to dredge most every boat ramp, creek, and river. They have the opportunity every year and never do. I can name you 4 boat ramps right now that you can barely use unless your boat is less than 12 ft. D&N, I'm not saying that info is wrong cause it may be true, just saying it doesn't make sence. Sorry, I'm just local to this lake and have used it my whole life and it's kinda personal and I take it personal when they (COE) screw it up for sportsman.

Don't they have to keep the rivers rolling too? Maybe they let it out to keep up flow. They pump out of MS river west of Clarkesdale into the Sunflower just to keep that one from turning into a complete sludge ditch.
Sound familiar?

Fighting Bayou is using it to pump their fields. Hey, I heard they killed a grand total of 17 ducks either opening day or opening weekend. Nuff said about ducks in the area.

This site will show you the actual level by the hour. They are going to keep running it untill they get it to 193, then they will cut it off. I have the rule curve on my computer at home. It shows where they want the water level every month. They pull it down every year in NOV.

As it was explained to me before they've got to keeps the gates open so the runout waterways don't dry up.

Ex. Lower Coldwater, Lower Tallahatchie, Lower Yocona, Lower Yalabousha. Everything below the dams needs water too. l

i grew up hunting the back waters of grenada, we had a duck paradise hunting old forgoten duck impoundment pounds about seven years ago the corp moved in and told everyone that they were going to clear out debri, redo the levies with new pipes, and plant food plots for the ducks. All they did was cut the levies and pulled their equipment out and now every couple of years they go in and destroy the beaver dams where the beavers fixed the levies. if you want something really screwed up put the corp in charge

I think the lakes have some long established rules in place that if x amount of rain occurs in x amount of time that they have to run some water regardless of the lake level....

now as to the logic behind that....your guess is as good as mine.

Ever since Ramon Pierce got a job with the corp, everything has gone to hell.
