I view turkey hunting as a game........and when you pull the trigger, the game's over. So, we're still playing......me and this big TOM......and so far, he's kickin' my butt!
At this point in the game, I'm still sizin'-up the competition and taking inventory and making sure I'm after the right gobbler ('only gonna kill one, if I get lucky enough).....the rest of'em (3-4 2-year-old birds) , I'll hunt with a video camera like I did last year. 'Had this bird @ 20feet with video camera last year.
I've been within 40yds from a couple o' birds but haven't gotten a real clear look at'em. 'Got a good look at a 3-year-old on my driveway yesterday.......Grrrrrr!! I was in the truck.
After yesterday, I may have to draft another set of rules.......this big boy ain't playin' fair!

Anatidae,
If you don't want the turkeys in your yard, you should raise your bird feeders more than 1 foot off the ground.

0 for 1 for me, so far. But it just started for me. Did all the right things, got between some hens and a gobbler on the roost. He was going nuts from his roost, gobbled 8-10 times. Dang hens flew down and came running right by me and right to him. He never gobbled after he flew down and got henned up. Heard another gobbler on another ridge but never found him as he quit gobbling after flydown, too. Hope the birds get a little more stirred up with the warmer weather this week.

Hehehe.........Hell, I don't NEED to feed'em......with my turkey hunting skills thus far, they KNOW they're safe just about anywhere they go........and I'm doin' my part to keep'em thinkin' THAT. I'm convinced they're 'patterning' me.
Man, they tee-TOTALLY turned me around yesterday......and I just KNEW I had'em pegged.......'ended-up one field over and sent a lone hen into the field I was sitting on......to make me think the rest of'em were gonna join her any minute. There was 3 gobblers in that field (never saw'em, but heard all 3 gobble within about 10 seconds of each other about 200yds apart, around 3:00). Them suckers slipped outa the field and roosted in a different spot while the hen kept me 'pinned'. I guess they got their OWN form of decoys........it WORKED, Too! (....'Communist suckers!)
I tell ya, I'm 'bout ready t' roll his butt off a high limb at daybreak!......'drill him right up the WAZOO!!!
Turkey hunting sure is a terrible addiction!
Besides, the yard's off-limits to hunting (except fo' armadillos).

Just a little mild bragging - I had one of those heart in the throat, spittin' and drummin', dry-mouthed, quadruple-gobblin', hands shakin' kind of hunts this morning. I was back in the truck by 7 minutes til 7:00 this morning with a fine gobbler in the back. You guys that like this turkey hunting know how it is! The rest of you unfortunates that haven't tried it beware - it really is as addictive as it's cracked up to be!
