Planting Cattails

Postby duckter » Thu Nov 01, 2007 10:17 am

Not sure of the specific name, but we are needing to plant some around our neighborhood pond.

Any suggestions on type, method and timing of planting these?

I'd use giant bur reed instead. It has a seed pod. Looks like cattails.

I've dug them up in the spring and transplanted them. Get a nice chunk of the root and keep it wet until you can plant it in your pond.

I'd suggest planting louisiana water iris instead. Not nearly as noxious, quick growing, beautiful flowers, easy transplant, grows great right along water's edge. Find some folks that havi it and they'll usually let you dig some.
