DECOY SET UP?????

ALRIGHT MEN. I'M READY TO ASK A LIGITIMATE BEGINER QUESTION. I HAVE PURCHASED A COUPLE OF MOJO DUCKS, WOODIE AND MALLARD DECOYS AND AM ORDERING A FEW CRANE / HERRON "CONFIDENCE" DECOYS. WE ARE ALSO GOING TO GET SOME booty UP FEEDING MOTION DECOYS. I'M HEADED NORTH IN A WEEK TO DO SOME LEG WORK. BUT ONCE I FIGURE OUT WHERE I WANT TO HUNT AND GET OUT THERE, WHATS THE BEST WAY TO SET UP A SPREAD WITH A MIXED BAG OF MOTION, & REGULAR DEKES????? I NEED TO FIGURE THIS OUT SO I CAN START KILLING DUCKS AND MOVE UP TO THE NEXT LEVEL PAST TOPWATER :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

I usually set the mojo's up right above the butt up decoys, that way they think it is mating season. You will have ducks falling from the heavens. :wink:

d yourself a favor and through the blow jo's away and make a jerk string. More realistic and works 10x better. Why oh why is everyone using mojo's I will never know

Bubba...i like you man...so I'm gonna give you a bit of advice.... leave the batteries at home.... for the most part Mojo's and topwaters are kinda like dogs and fleas....where you find one you usually find the other....

start out with the basics, a few decoys, a call or two, waders, jacket shotgun and shells and chase those feathered jokers to hell and back....avoid the gear monkey if you can...that joker will spend all your cash and your wife will think this duck hunting stuff is too expensive...(voice of experience here)....

as for decoy setup....i usually set the decoys up down wind in a field.... ducks will generally light into the wind and this way they'll be flying toward you.... and when you're setting up decoys leave an open space for them to land.... that ought to get you started....

the caps lock on was a great touch! gordo gave you some good advice about the down wind set up. just remember to leave an opening... :D :D

agreed......... spinners are not worth the money around here..... an hour after daylight you'll be wondered what your doing wrong for everything to be flaring..... and it will be the remote in your hand!

Agreed. Anytime I hunt my holes adjacent to public hunting, i leave my mojo at home. All those boys (NOT a demeaning sweeping generalization of the stand up guys on this site) who put out five spinners save me the trouble of having to do so. Their skyblasting and overcalling also save my breath and fill my limits with rather high consistency. Even when I hunt the said public waters during the week when the aforementioned demographic is earning an honest living, I leave the mojo at home.

Bubba...I'll take you on a bonafide public land duck hunt, and, you'll learn more in 1 day than you will an entire season by yourself. Be ready to walk, run, and crawl...We will duck hunt the morning, and, deer hunt the afternoon. You will also have to leave your mojo at home. Give a holla when season gets rollin' if your interested :wink:

Be sure and paint one decoy solid white.......(kinda 'off-white', actually).......to resemble a farm duck. You will be amazed at how well that works. :wink:
