Dave Ramsey
Dave Ramsey
Anyone going to the Dave Ramsey event at First Baptist church next week. If you dont know who he is, he is a financial advisor, he comes on Supertalk MS (97.3 in Jackson) everyday at 1:00 til 4:00. He is pretty good.

I can vouch for that. I saw him as a guest sermon at Christ United Methodist Church in Jackson about a year or two ago.

I've listened to him a few times on the radio. He seems to be a very strong Christian man. However, his financial advice seems to be such that he wants you to skrimp, save, live in poverty and second-hand clothes, so you can retire wealthy. That's all good, but you only live once, and I just can't see denying yourself SOME of the better things of this life, i.e., hunting and fishing equipment, etc. I don't know what his stance on hunting is, either. I hope he isn't a bunny-hugger. Life is too short to scrounge around, and not enjoy yourself, 'cause you sure aren't going to take it with you!!! Just my 2 cents worth.
At $75 a head sounds like only 1 man is getting wealthy......although he may have some good ideas on how to RETIRE wealty...although I dont think I have heard of him,so i cant judge his christianity(sp)....just what I am seeing in this post
Thanks

dedux,
I think the point Dave makes is not to go into debt over anything that will depreciate in value. I have heard him say plenty of times it is a great to have toys, but toys that you can afford.
I think he is awesome, and would love to go to his seminar, but i will be out of town.

I am very familiar with Dave. We have had allot of personal contact with his organization. The Biblical principles he teaches about debt is right on. A little extreme, but good. Our generation has a huge problem with buying things we can't afford. Not to give an Econ lesson, but what would things cost if we had no choice but to pay cash for things? Your house? Your truck ? Credit can be an evil monster if not controlled
Most of his materials were derived from Larry Burkett's materials at Christian Financial Concepts in Georgia -- who is a great man.
But his ideas on investing, taxes and life insurance are way off... but that's another subject for another day.
His arrogance is revolting, and kinda funny since he is incorrect on some things. But if he is out there helping people get their financial lives under control using Biblical principles....
then preach on brother --

Sometimes you just have to close your eyes, count to ten, take a deep breath and remind yourself that you wouldn't look good in prison stripes... and just smile at that dumbass and walk away.
Although I did not hear him speak, he gave a three day seminar at the church I attend in Southaven a year or so ago. They charged something like $75 a head or so. I beleive that other people's debt is making him a rich man though
Obviously you didn't try to go b/c his seminars are like $19 a head. Oh yeah other peoples debt cant be making him rich since he dosen't accept debt. Register for program and you will found out why. If you aint got the money in you checking account you dont go. If you listen to him on the radio alot of times folks really dont have it to spend in their checking they will call Dave and tell him there financial situation and he tries to help them and will also give the free tickets to a live seminar in the area they are in.

Could his ideas about investing and insurance possibly be misconstrued by someone who sells investments and insurance? Just curious?
I will agree some of his ideas are a bit far fetched. He seems to say sell all your things and pay your debts!!!
He is on the right track though because debt management and being good stewards of our money is a psychological, biblical issue not a financial one.
Only two ways to have more money, make more or spend less.
Then again my father always told me "son, you can marry more in one day than you can earn the rest of your life"
